Ukraine – the situation (June 16, 2022)
Asia Times ^

Posted on 06/16/2022 8:07:45 PM PDT by FarCenter

‘They’ll promise EU membership and old howitzers, get lushed up on vodka and go home by train like 100 years ago’

Scholz, Macron and Draghi arrived by special train in Kiev and made the rounds.

Germany’s major daily Die Welt asked, “Are they going to pressure Zelensky into negotiations?”

On Friday, the EU Commission will recommend that Ukraine be given EU candidate member status. (Note that Turkey has been a candidate member of the EU since April 1987).

The White House announced another $1 billion in military assistance for Kiev.

Mainly included are 18 155mm howitzers plus 36k rounds of ammo for those and 18 tactical vehicles to tow them.

Germany was to deliver 4 MRLS (Mars 2), but only has ammo for three. That leaves 10 altogether: four US Himars, three UK 207mm and three German Mars 2.

Ukrainian forces in Severodonetsk are isolated and holed up in the Azot fertilizer plant as all three bridges across the Donets River are down.

Russian forces out of Izyum and Lyman continue to grind in a southeasterly direction toward Sloviansk and Siversk. Forces out of Popasna are pushing north to connect up.

US President Biden told senior defense and state department officials to tone down the rhetoric of victory over Russia, according to NBC News.

Ukraine Major General Dmitry Marchenko told a Radio Free Europe affiliate that Ukraine will target Europe’s longest bridge connecting the Russian mainland to Crimea across the Kerch Strait when weapons to do so become available.

Little or no activity is reported in Kharkiv and southern regions.

“Ukraine will target Europe’s longest bridge connecting the Russian mainland to Crimea across the Kerch Strait when weapons to do so become available.”

I seem to remember statements being made that using US weapons to fire into Russian territory was a no-no. Giving long-range weapons is like giving a monkey a hand grenade.

Ukraine situation? Economy in severe collapse. Their food/ grain being held in country, exports slashed. Ukie minister admits to horrendous losses in Donbass, full Ukie mobilization extended but no infrastructure to train, feed, arm and equip its soldier’s draft.

That said, Russia making billions for its energy, food and commodities. Senile Joe’s Sanctions backfiring and crippling the West. How’s them Sanction’s working, Joe? They have become Suicide Sanctions for the West, good job.

Russia announces interest rates DECREASE , Ruble on a roar, Russia getting premium prices for all its oil, NG, diesel, commodities, grain and food. They are flush with Ca$H, billions….any comments from the Ukie war cheerleaders?

…and Vlad keeps saying CHECKMATE, again and again.

Sort of reminds me of Germany around March 1945 when we had total air superiority. Putin's jets go where they want when they want with very little chance of getting shot down. I'd say that makes a war difficult to win, no?

.

.

Fresh video demonstrating that. The fictional Ghost of Kiev is turning over in his grave!

Taking that big, long target out, should have been a priority, and it should have been planned before Russia invaded. Taking that bridge out will really P.O. Putin, but it needs to be done.

Ukrainian resources report that the Western masters demand from the Ze-Office to make any pederast a Hero of Ukraine. In the sense of a member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who is a homosexual. According to the hosts of Ukraine, this is important for affirming the adherence of the Kyiv regime to European standards, as part of their claims to the status of candidates for the EU. Ze-office is working on solving this problem. @WarDonbass

This General ought to be sidelined for opening his big freaking trap.

Either he is giving Russia a false flag or he is totally naive and think the Russians won’t act on this info he just provided PUBLICLY !

Ukraine will be Russia’s next Afghanistan, only much worse. Orders of magnitude worse. Almost every “Ukie” hates you, katsaps, even those who loved you before this genocidal war, for what you are doing to Ukrainian civilians. Partisans will hunt every one of you on Ukrainian land. They have nothing to lose. It’s an open season and you are a fair game. You think you will sleep at night in your Mordor? How many saboteurs, do you think, among those deported from Ukraine to Russia?

German and French voices in this have been entirely about Ukraine rolling over and keeping Russia sweet.

But telling Ukraine in effect to give Putin everything he wants without imposing any meaningful concessions on Russia is not going to convince Zelenskyy OR the Eastern European nations that it’ll lead to stability in the East.

Putin has stated his revanchist mission and anyone with two brain cells to rub together can see it’s a total repudiation of the UN Charter recognition of sovereign independent nation states. If he is validated in any way then that internationally binding principle is fatally undermined... Kiss goodbye to an independent Taiwan, and expect war between North Korea and the South the minute Kim thinks he can get away with it.

And Putin isn’t prepared to give up revanchism.

Another problem is, 6 million refugees are clogging up eastern Europe and adding to a burden that a few years back nearly broke European unity. Their whole Schengen principle of open borders between states inside the EU annoyed the eastern and southern countries because the ones who insist most on the inviolate freedom of movement are the ones least impacted by it.

If Germany gets its way, those six million people would be mad to go back to a Russian occupied Ukraine. Poland takes the biggest hit.

This is one of the reasons the developing world is REALLY enjoying the schadenfreude of a butt-hurt Western Europe.

Pakistan’s leadership thinks America is pathetically and disingenuously whingeing (for purely racist reasons) over its comparitively tiny border control problem while they have had to deal with tens of millions of refugees flooding in from conflict zones... And they can’t afford to keep doing it.

The developing world, and the Warsaw Pact region, is thinking “cry us a river- come back to us when you’ve got 2 million refugees crossing into your country in eight weeks” and the French/German/American talk of “why don’t you just give the brutal invaders everything they want, and stop inconveniencing us” is only going to convince them even more that the West has lost all moral authority.

“Ukraine will target Europe’s longest bridge connecting the Russian mainland to Crimea across the Kerch Strait when weapons to do so become available.”

Russia now occupies a stretch of Ukraine across the northern coast of Sea of Azov, so they now have a better “bridge” to Crimea. They also have undammed the canal providing Dnieper water to Crimea. So the bridge is not so strategic.

There are about a dozen bridges across the Dnieper south of Kyiv. The Russians could easily take them out, effectively isolating the eastern and western halves of Ukraine.

Partisans will hunt every one of you on Ukrainian land. They have nothing to lose.
_______________________

Does this include all those fleeing to avoid the fighting?

There are more Ukrainians profiting off of stolen NATO donations than Ukrainian fighters. The partisans in the Donbass are lining up for Russian passports. Russians are forgiving debts for those wishing Russian citizenship, while Ukraine institutes a Reset with UBI and digital internal passports to go along with the nationalized media and begging Poland to deport the male refugees so they can be conscripted.

Europe trades w/Russia via backdoors and cutouts. EU unloads old equipment on the promises of new replacements from the US, who cannot even manufacture them for years. EU takes in draft dodgers and ignores Zelensky while draping themselves in blue and yellow flags.

This post is delusional. And wrong.

Zelensky & Co can refuse all they want. Eventually, NATO and those hoping for a forever war will have no choice other than to take Zelensky & Co out due to the extreme embarrassment they are providing to the Western provocateurs. If elderly ladies in nowhere, USA can see this, the provocateurs are cognizant and have been from the git go.

This is NATO’s personal fustercluck. The only question left is how long will they subject themselves to what has descended into tragedy from farce.

—————
Sure doesn’t look like it. With almost 25 percent of Ukie land being “ liberated”, and almost 35 percent in ruins, I simply can’t imagine a Ukie “ Revival”, they are spent. Vlad is taking the Donbass for the Independent Provinces, the Ukies never wanted those ethnic Russians anyway, the civil war that has been in progress there since 2015 has been a major thorn in their side.

If you haven’t noticed, the EU has started quietly urging the corrupted little beggar Zelensky to get negotiating, turning over the Independent Donbass provinces and end the war. He had better hurry before Vlad decides to take Odessa.

The only similarity I see, is the US had no business in Afghanistan for so long,(you see how that turned out with senile Joe in charge) and we have absolutely no business in Ukraine….again with senile Joe in charge- EVERYTHING he sticks his nose in ends up in disaster for the US.

It takes a pretty dim bulb to call anyone who supports a
nation when it is defending itself against an invasion
a war cheerleader.

It would be that same dim bulb who supports the invasion
to be the real war cheerleader.

You really aren’t to bright are you.

Yeah, war is hell and this is being fought on the Ukraine’s
soil, so yeah there are disruptions. Let me guess, you
think that’s something new.

Seriously, buy some clues before you come to the forum.

So far your batting zilch.

As for Russia doing great, how’s its auto industry doing?

How did Russia’s people living in poverty segment just grow
by 60%? I mean Russia is doing so swell according to you.

Hit a nerve, sorry.
First, don’t misquote my comments, which reflects reality. My remarks are “ Ukie war cheerleaders “. Do not add to it. Having been in a war, I am disgusted by it, you would be to, but you haven’t been there.

I support neither side, both Zelensky and Vlad are equally evil and corrupted. My rub is with western MSM, nothing but war, war, war, and the war cheerleaders drink it up. I support truth, with is not being reported by western media.

Didn’t you learn anything from Trump?, who by the way asked the same question, Why all the war, war, war, no calls for Peace? …my turn- bet you have been double vaxed, you probably bought into that hoax also…fool me once, fool me twice- you have been had.
