The federal government started taking orders from states two weeks ago for 10 million doses.
WASHINGTON — Florida parents with kids under 5 years old may find themselves waiting longer than the rest of the country to get their youngest children vaccinated against Covid since state officials have decided not to order any doses for that age group.
Florida is the only state that hasn't submitted a request with the federal government for doses of the Covid vaccine specifically tailored for children ages six months to five years in anticipation of U.S. regulators giving clearance for that age bracket as early as this weekend, said a person familiar with the matter.
The Florida Department of Health said the state was choosing not to order vaccines from the federal government and instead leaving it to individual doctors to request vaccines directly.
The agency said in a statement it "has made it clear to the federal government that states do not need to be involved in the convoluted vaccine distribution process, especially when the federal government has a track record of developing inconsistent and unsustainable COVID-19 policies."

Even if you are pro-vaccine, the state and federal distribution programs have been plagued by inefficiencies. Unused vaccines expiring/going bad, etc.. By having doctors who are much more in tune with their clientele order them directly, it is much less likely there will be waste, etc.. it just makes more sense.
What is interesting is that DeSantis apparently is the only governor who understands this, and is perfectly willing to be out on a limb is the only Governor doing it. That kind of insight, coupled with courage, is extraordinarily rare in political figures.
It’s like Florida is that last sane state in the Union.
Well, it’s governor anyway. Florida Man is still a thing.
Fear not, we have plenty of jackasses here who want it, along with trans-education for the young one’s too.
Speaking of Covid, COVID data freak Rebekah Jones is running for office.
Skimming the article I see its a thinly veiled hit piece as it mentions DeS “potential Presidential run” in 2024.
They fear DeSantis almost as much as DJT.....and for that reason in their minds both must be destroyed.

It is VERY strange to be vaccinating tiny kids against a non life threatening illness, considering any mass vaccination of this sort will cause some adverse reactions, and especially with a new vaccine that was rushed into emergency service.
I recall a European study of the number of deaths of healthy children from Covid....the number was ZERO.
I’m not aware of Texas ordering this for 5 year olds.
My comment was based on Abbott allowing this *in* Texas.
The combination of a spine with a very sharp brain, plus the verbal acuity to defend it all, is devastating. Dems have to be praying he isn’t the nominee. They love portraying conservatives as stupid - they did it to both Reagan and Trump - but you can’t do that with DeSantis.
I would fear the guy that didn’t give us Operation Warp Speed the most.
