Russia on brink of humiliation - Ukraine 'within striking distance' of Crimea water supply
EXPRESS ^ | Russia on brink of humiliation - Ukraine 'within striking distance' of Crimea water supply | CLAIRE ANDERSON

Ukraine has made significant advances close to Kherson to the point of controlling the water supply in Crimea. Professor Michael Clarke, who specialises in defence studies, explained Ukraine is within striking distance of the supply. Speaking to Sky News, he said: "The Ukrainians are conducting quite a big offensive to take back Kherson. "They've opened up a 50-mile front to the northeast of Kherson and there are reports over the last 24 hours that the Ukrainians may have got as far as Kiselivka which is quite close to Kherson.

"They may be within striking distance of Nova Kakhovk which is a dam which controls the water supply in Crimea.

"Ukraine would love to retake that and be back in control of that supply.

"We're keeping a very close eye on those two areas because that battle is so far developing in Ukraine's favour as the days go on."

How long will it take the Russians to destroy Ukraine’s major water supply sources in retaliation if it happens?
And how long after that will it take for Ukraine to start screaming “Russian genocide”?

Ukraine is not morally obligated to pump water to the part of their country that is occupied by Russia so that the occupiers could practice agriculture there.

It would be a moral question worth thinking about if it was drinking water not agriculture.

My point is, if Ukraine destroys water supplies in the Crimea, it would be very easy for the Russians to destroy water supplies in the Ukraine in retaliation.
I just don't want to hear about “Russian human rights abuses” after Ukraine get a taste of their own medicine.

Yep, and international codes of law kick in. For the US version, there is the DOD Law manual, chapter 11.

DOD Law of War Manual

Looks like there are a few sections that apply: 11.5, 11.6, 11.15

Water rights are foundational areas of conflict. Shutting off the water supply to a community, small or large, domestic or agricultural, is never a morally acceptable position. The farmers in California face the same dilemma vis a vis state government policy that has devastated vast regions of crop land.

The “water supplies” here is an artificial channel Ukraine used to pump water into to enable agriculture in the Crimean peninsula, which doesn’t have enough water to support agriculture by itself.

The stop of pumping that water is not putting people into thirst. It is stopping the enemy from having agriculture in their occupied territories.

The human right abuses Russian invaders are committing in Ukraine is widespread murder, torture, rape and destruction.

Maybe you’re just looking for an excuse to ignore human rights abuses by Russian invaders?

Why occupiers? The same people are engaging in farming as 10 years ago. As for moral obligations, who needs their opinion at this point? The water issue has been resolved without Ukrainian participation.
The very fact that Ukraine “cares” about the people it officially claims as its own is a primary reason why everyone and their dog wants secession.
They won’t succeed in cutting the water of course.

You’re just a Russian propagandist spamming your lies here. Your “opinion” is worth nothing. If FR had a function to ignore posters I’d use it to never see your filth again.

“...Your “opinion” is worth nothing....”

Ole NK does not have “opinions”. He has Moscow talking points. Back in February, he said Kiev would fall within days. His other ramblings are of equal value.

And likewise, you ignoring the human rights abuses that Ukrainian death squads are committing against its own people just to make it look as though the Russians are committing ‘human rights abuses’?

I have noticed it. There is a very small group of Putinistas who post a lot. Then they all congratulate each other and by the end of it the thread is full of their inane crap.

They are very disgusting and they drive normal people away from the topics they spam because of all the filth. I’d truly want to have a functionality that would allow me to block their bullshit.

The only good thing out of it is reading the posts of smarter Freepers than myself willing to dive into that sewer and taking their propaganda apart.

I am rather well informed and I don’t buy this Russian propaganda.

My heavy criticism of Ukraine is that they did so for an unreasonably long time. The suckers thought that Russia is their friend and America is their enemy they should guard against.

Dumbasses!

ROLFMAO! Some people like to spill illogical nonsense unopposed for sure:) That’s because it fails to stand logical evaluation.

Can you explain why depriving people of water makes an offending entity popular with people, and giving them water makes another entity unpopular?

I guess you won’t and your only reaction is going to be insults because it is impossible to prove that water is dry and ice is hot.

Now, if the canal in question requires pumping by the Ukrainian side, why is it an issue? If there is no natural waterflow, why won’t they just stop pumping? Question for a friend.

Am I a propagandist for questioning stupid lies or what? And BTW, Hunter’s laptop was a Russian propaganda...until it wasn’t. What else is a Russian propaganda?
