We haven’t been a Republic since 1913 and the 17th amendment.
If we want the Republic back we have to repeal the 17th and return the selection of senators to the state legislatures. The 17th took the states out of the Federal government as far as having any say whatsoever and put them on an adversarial footing.
That needs to change.

Then I guess we have to change some words in the Pledge of Allegiance.

So: The 17th Amendment to the Constitution requires Senators to be elected by a direct vote of those she or he will represent. Election winners are decided by the plurality rule. That is, the person who receives the highest number of votes wins. In some states, this may not necessarily be a majority of the votes.

The 17th Amendment: A Detrimental Departure From The Constitution (Institute for Youth in Policy)
Reilly McGrath, 16 years old when written.
Fundamentally, the 17th amendment destroyed federalism in the United States. It removed power checks the many states held over the federal government. Additionally, it failed in returning power to the people as power has been concentrated in the federal government to create the exact tyrannical giant our founding fathers fought so hard against. The best solution to reigning in the federal government is to repeal the 17th amendment and restore power back to the many states.Keep hope alive!

Senators are elected by the people in the state that they represent...Hence, a “representative republic”...
