Truck drivers parking their rigs as gas prices continue to climb

Diesel prices are setting records, nationwide, as a gallon of the fuel now averages $5.72 as of Wednesday.

Drivers fueling up at a truck stop in east Houston said the pain at the pump is crippling as rising prices force some to park their rigs.

Houstonian Raymond Mayberry said he’s been a truck driver since 2003. He’s a self-employed trucker.

Even with the help of fuel-saving apps and a rewards program at the truck stop, Mayberry said he’s counting “every penny” because the almost-daily rise in diesel price affects his bottom line.

“It comes out of our profit. If you make $3,000, you’ve got to know $700 of that is coming out of your profit.”

The financial pain is enough to make Mayberry wince.

“Oh yeah. When I first started, diesel was $.99," he said.

Analysts expect fuel prices will continue to rise through the summer. Hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico could drive prices even higher, which is why other truckers are counting their blessings.

Eventually, the brokers go broke when no one is driving. Rates will go up to a level to cover operating costs. If not, the nation shuts down.

Yes. Nuclear power is fine too.

I’m sure somewhere science can discover other types of valid energy sources—unfortunately science is too engrossed in gender studies!

You seem to have these processes dialed in to your satisfaction. I have a query about this; you wrote:

“...the microbiota evolved to the point where they could convert the carbon dioxide...”

Could the rest of what you said have occurred w/o that phenomenon?

It needs the genesis of some kind of life form to carry out this little trick of photosynthesis, actually a highly complex transformation of water and carbon dioxide into free oxygen and carbohydrates.

And people say God does not perform miracles. Do not scoff, this a miracle of the highest order.

No scoff here; life itself is a miracle. It can neither arise nor sustain w/o God. When you used the word “evolved” I wasn’t sure about your sense of the emergence of life from non-life. But your adducing of God and miracles gave me a much better idea about it.

Prepper Ping - When the trucks stop rolling, will you be prepared ?
Diesel fuel is running more than $6.00 per gallon
Can independent truckers survive ? Or will they just park their rigs ?
Then WHAT ?

E. Pluribus Unum :” We will all live in a food desert soon. ..You do realize it is all by design? “

[We will all live in a food desert soon.]

SaveFerris : “You may be right.
Maybe that's the plan? Make the people starve and then they'll submit? Is that from '1984'?
The world, especially the West, seems to be going out of their way to make like even more difficult for their citizens. /change my mind "

(From the news source):” Houstonian Raymond Mayberry said he’s been a truck driver since 2003. He’s a self-employed trucker.
The rising costs of trucking trickle down to goods and groceries as companies struggle to manage inflation. .

“These customers,” said Mayberry of the people who hire him to haul goods across the country.
“They want to pay you the same amount they paid you six, seven months ago. They can’t do it. And me, I’ll let my truck sit.” (Emphasis mine)
More than $700 worth of diesel fuel now gets Mayberry to Atlanta for his delivery.
But with prices at the pump rising daily, truckers like Mayberry don’t yet know how much it will cost to get them home.”

(MY COMMENT): This war on alleged 'Fossil Fuel' is all man-made, by supposed well-meaning actors that we call government, especially this current administration.
So also aren't the wars and resulting fertilizer 'shortage', as well a social chaos, inflation, stagflation, and.
The current administration insists that we should commit national and family self-sabotage due to climate change, and are committed to strictly renewable sources of energy.
We should have learned the lesson that Germany is currently experiencing that renewable energy sources are unreliable,
and that an abrupt change in energy policy without any "gradual transition" without alternatives is foolhardy.
The current _resident ran on a policy of "transition" of energy, but this isn't a transition; we are experiencing an abrupt termination of energy without adequate alternatives.
No new nuclear power plant has been commissioned in the last thirty years, and the electrical grid as it presently exists is insufficient and out dated.
We are in deep "do do", and our national energy abuser is the guy who is supposed to protect us from harm.
And it is all man-made and directed by design .

In our little town with no grocery store, the dollar general’s bread shelf had a few loaves . . . no buns . . and the truck was just there.

They are not "well-meaning."

They are transhumanist psychopaths who want us to die.

The fly around on their fossil-fueled corporate jets and whine to each other about the plague of human insects spoiling the Walden Paradise they deserve.

They fouled the availability of computer chips. That didn’t slow us down enough, so now they are fouling up the availability of fuel.

Remember cash for clunkers? Another one of obama’s ideas to get us into newer less polluting cars.

All that did is drive up the costs of used cars.

Texas resident :" ..That didn’t slow us down enough, so now they are fouling up the availability of fuel."

The key question is that Diesel is used to deliver goods from the warehouse and distributed to your neighborhood store as well as in other transport vehicles
If you have no neighborhood store, you have to drive to another neighborhood to get your food and commodities from their location, ..assuming they have been resupplied.
Many first responder agencies are concerned about increased fuel expense, recently a police agency in Michigan directed staff to handle as many calls by telephone rather than travel.
The price of diesel is getting high enough that truckers have to merge multiple errands and deliveries to minimize travel, and thus it affects their profit/loss.
When truck drivers can't support themselves or their family, they will likely park their vehicles rather than operate at a loss.

Also, not mentioned here is the fact that all diesel engines manufactured in the last 10 years require 'DEF', a urea or nitrogen product, in order to operate.
There is a shortage of DEF, nationwide. it is used to control pollution exhaust.
Think that won't affect you or your family (?); most large farm equipment, commercial and urban municipal bus lines, and most fire trucks that use diesel can't operate without DEF.

That definitely isn’t the case here. I’m sitting at my usual perch in a McD and can see an interstate (I-182) 200 yards away. Trucks - trucks - trucks.

All fire apparatus should have that downstream sensor hacked! Can’t let DEF shortage affect mission availability! Same as military!
