The US wants companies to buy Russian fertilizer as agricultural commodities markets spiral and a global food crisis looms: report

The US wants companies to ramp up purchases of Russian fertilizer as global food costs rise and shortages loom, according to a Monday Bloomberg report.

Sources told Bloomberg that the government is quietly pushing companies to buy and carry more Russian fertilizer. Sanctions fears have created a supply shortage and have fueled a global food crisis, and the US is moving to alleviate pressure with the United Nations by boosting deliveries of fertilizer, grain, and other supplies from Russia.

This year, Russian fertilizer exports have dropped 24%, per Bloomberg data. Russia and Ukraine together account for a quarter of global grains trade.

The challenge the US faces is that it must balance putting more pressure on Moscow while also limiting repercussions for the global economy and the world's food supply, which relies on a range of products from Russia.

The Biden administration is full of s... er manure.

They should just ship the products of the White House and Congress to Iowa and end this fertilizer inflation.

Frankly, I wish this President would come out and tell women which shampoo to use. It’s the only thing he seems to be an expert at.

Considering that the world price for fertilizer has more than doubled (a lot more), a 25% cut in Russian exports is less than painless to Russia.

Will Putin sell more? Sure, but ONLY if the West permits it, rather than ensuring the starvation of hundreds of millions of Third World people. Tough call for the West - is it worth killing off nearly a billion people (people with families, by the way), to ‘stick it to Putin’? I don’t know that answer - but I guess we’ll soon see what’s more important to them.

-- The most comprehensive failure of foreign policy in forever. --

They can't come out and express the goal, which is killing us off. Instead it'll be the other guy's fault, or some sort of bad foresight, but never the truth.

It's not a policy failure, it's intentional desctruction of basic goods in order to cause misery. People will clamor for more government.

Idiotic leftists and “conservative” chest-thumping neocon trash would starve the world without shedding a tear. They are both a curse on humanity.

Will our farmers get their overpriced Russian fertilizer in time for fall fertilizing? It’s too late for spring fertilizing.

You’d think a vegetable like Biden would know about that.

Yes. It is for staple soybeans and corn. I suppose winter wheat, planted in late summer or fall might need imported fertilizer, but seems a little late even for them. Maybe someone who grows winter wheat could explain timing.
