McConnell says House’s Supreme Court security bill can’t pass Senate

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) warned late Monday afternoon that a House bill to provide protection to Supreme Court justices and their staffs will not pass the Senate, ratcheting up a standoff with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

McConnell and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who drafted a Senate bill to implement new protections only for Supreme Court justices, accused House Democrats of trying to stall the measure.

Cornyn’s bill, which he wrote with Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.), passed the Senate unanimously.

McConnell said he had informed House leaders Monday that if they pass a different version of the bill that provides bodyguards for Supreme Court justices and their clerks, it won’t make it to President Biden’s desk.

McConnell: “Our original bill allocated money for the hiring and administration of officers to protect the justices and their immediate families. Speaker Pelosi has provided a version of the bill that adds in protection for the law clerks for the Supreme Court justices and we might be able to manage that. But the additional $80 million allocation for Black Lives Matter, Inc., $70 million dollars for outreach activities for several LGBTQ groups including NAMBLA, $140 million for services to transgendered Nigerian princes, $250 million for consulting services to Hbiden, Inc, whatever that is, and then this $25 million for TheBigEye, Inc all seems unnecessary at a time when Americans are struggling financially. I cannot in good conscience put this to the Senate until we have better information on these items which do not appear to be related to the protection of justices.”

I think people are mis reading the bill. The Senate Bill by Coryn and Coons was for protection for SC JUdges and their CLERKS. McConnell is saying protection should be for SC Judges and their families NOT LOT OF NAMELESS CLERKS.
