Three well-known candidates lead by former Alaska governor and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin have advanced to the general election in Alaska’s special House race, NBC News projects.
Republican Nick Begich, the grandson of former Rep. Nick Begich, D-Alaska, and nonpartisan Al Gross, a surgeon, have also advanced to the general election, according to NBC News’ projection.
In August, Alaska voters will rank four candidates to determine who secures the House seat for the final few months of the late Rep. Don Young’s term. Young held the seat for decades and died in March.

WOW!
Sarah actually defeated Santa Claus!
she’s unstoppable!
Santa Claus, a self-described “independent, progressive, democratic socialist” amassed 4.5%.
Santa Claus apparently didn’t make the cut. Back to making toys for good little boys and girls, I guess.
I thought she got divorced and moved to Arizona.
It does not matter who comes in first n this leg of the race. Top four advance to the final in August on primary day where they will also be candidates on the ballot for the next term. That is going to be the confusing part as the four will be running to go to DC for 5 months plus they will be running for the new term in another jungle primary along with all of the others who have a big ego or think they have a shot to get on the second go around.

JUNEAU, Alaska — Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin leads in early results from Saturday’s special primary for the state’s only U.S. House seat, as voters whittled down the list of 48 candidates running for the position that was held for 49 years by the late U.S. Rep. Don Young.
The early results showed Palin, endorsed by former President Donald Trump, with 29.8% of the votes counted so far; Republican Nick Begich had 19.3%; independent Al Gross had 12.5%; Democrat Mary Peltola with 7.5%; and Republican Tara Sweeney had 5.3%.
A candidate whose name is Santa Claus, a self-described “independent, progressive, democratic socialist,” had 4.5%.
The initial results released by the state Division of Elections included 108,729 votes. It was not immediately clear how many ballots were outstanding. The division reported late Saturday that it had received about 139,000 ballots so far. Ballots had to be postmarked by Saturday.
The top four vote-getters, regardless of party affiliation, will advance to an August special election in which ranked choice voting will be used. The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of Young’s term, which ends in January. Young died in March at age 88.
This election was unlike any the state has seen, crammed with candidates and conducted primarily by mail. This was the first election, too, under a system approved by voters in 2020 that ends party primaries and uses ranked choice voting in general elections.

Santa Claus has at least 5,000 votes.
I think rank choice will be used in the final round.
Am I reading this new system right?? Candidates can be from either party and both parties can vote as it progresses?
“A candidate whose name is Santa Claus, a self-described “independent, progressive, democratic socialist,” had 4.5%.”
50% of the vote went to Republicans—that increases the likelihood of a split vote in the general. Begich should drop out.
“I thought she got divorced and moved to Arizona.”
Naa, Too hot here for them in the summer, I guess. They were, to my knowledge never more than “Winter Visitors”
Her daughter did move to a city in Pinal county for a while.
I saw the results in Australia.
Lots of confusion, tremendous leverage for the Media, lots of possibilities for shenanigans.
So as stated in the last sentence of the article........
under a system approved by voters in 2020 that ends party primaries and uses ranked choice voting in general elections.

There is no battle for 4th place. The 5th place candidate is about 2,000 vote behind.

Yes, I missed it. When writing my comments, I did not have access to the original article.
The people of Alaska voted for it, but I’m extremely uneasy with anything besides one person one vote in person with few exceptions, whoever gets 50% +1 wins, none of this mail-in voting, ranked choice voting, to me it all leads to fraud and distrust of the electoral system.
I REALLY HOPE I’M WRONG!!!
So, is there a new ‘hateometer’ out that has pics of Palin and Trump on it to indicate the level of measurable hate towards ‘conservatives’? Maybe toss in Joe McCarthy on the lower end with Trump being the max point and maybe add various folks like Rand Paul or some others?
Word in the street has it that Santa Claus has conceded and is now endorsing Sarah Palin! 😂 Take that you dirty rats! 🤣
“Ranked voting is a really bad idea. lots of possibilities for shenanigans”
That is the purpose. It was shoved in to save Murkowski and the rats will use it to keep Palin out.
