It’s up to Pa. voters to preserve democracy in November | Editorial
The Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | June 12, 2022 | by The Editorial Board

Finally, the Pennsylvania primary is over, which means voters now have a clear sense of what’s at stake on Election Day.

Doug Mastriano, the Republican nominee for governor, is one of the leading deniers of the undeniable truth that Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

Celebrity TV doctor Mehmet Oz, the Republican Senate nominee, has refused to acknowledge that Biden won the 2020 election. Trump endorsed Oz, who in turn voiced support for the 2020 election fraud conspiracies.

The longtime New Jersey resident has no political experience. He has been widely criticized for touting medical quackery, including endorsing hydroxychloroquine, the malaria drug recklessly pushed by Trump, to treat COVID-19. But he could win.

Given all the other Republican candidates trafficking in lies and phony election fraud conspiracies, it’s up to voters to preserve our democracy.

The difference between democracy and authoritarianism can depend on only a few thousand voters, which is what makes Pennsylvania so important.

Pennsylvania voters in 2020 saved the country from the clear and present dangers that likely would have prevailed had Trump remained in power. His past praise for Vladimir Putin suggests he would have turned a blind eye or even supported Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. His disdain for NATO made him incapable of coaxing that league of nations to depend less on Russian oil and gas.

A recent poll found that 64% of Americans believe U.S. democracy is “in crisis and at risk of failing.” The power to alter that perception, however, is in their hands.

In before the “it’s all fixed and we will never have another legitimate election in this country ever again so what’s the use in voting” crowd.

Given about 60% of the people in this country believe there were significant shenanigans in the 2020 election, this editorial may backfire.

“including endorsing hydroxychloroquine, the malaria drug recklessly pushed by Trump, to treat COVID-19.”

It works....

I think it’s a stronger argument to say that Biden may have “won” because more votes for him were reported, but there are valid concerns about whether some of those votes were legitimate.

At least this puts the focus on how the election was conducted. Otherwise many people just say, “the guy who ended up with the most vote won”, and that’s not the issue.

The “ editorial board “ of the Philadelphia Inquirer ?

Wouldn’t it be interesting to see the make-up of this “ board “ ?

Michael Moore, Meathead Reiner, Alysa Milano ?

It makes one wonder how they gain their “insight”. There is clearly a more secure communication among the Left than was revealed in the 2016 WikiLeaks.

Seems to be some truth to that in PA where it takes weeks to count the votes.

I'm not thrilled about Doug or 0z but I will hold my nose, cross my fingers and vote for them in November.

I hope Trump is right in supporting them.

🤞🤞

Newspaper Editorial Boards are made up of the papers editors and the publishers. They never involve outside parties.

The bipartisan long knives are out for Mastriano, and I pray to God that his margin of victory is large enough to withstand the massive Democrat cheating that will be ignored by the RINO-controlled legislature headed by Jake the Snake Corman.

Jake the Snake shut down all efforts by Mastriano to open a thorough investigation into the Steal, going so far as to fire Mastriano's staff and replace them with his own toadies.

Mastriano has been on record promising a true audit of Dominion machines. The Swamp will stop at nothing to defeat him. He is hated by Democrats and RINOs with the same ferocity as they hate Trump.

I read this editorial and I hear the voice of The Inquisition. Heresy! Blasphemy! Is this all they have? It's a rhetorical question, but YES.

They never involve outside parties.

I think we all know that. And we also know that the Philadelphia Inquirer has been a left wing rag for years. Their editorial board probably meets under a portrait of Che Guevara.
