Wickr Me, an encrypted messaging app owned by Amazon, has reportedly become a popular app for people sharing images of child sexual abuse.
NBC News reports that Wickr Me, an encrypted messaging app owned by Amazon, has become popular amongst individuals sharing images and videos of child sexual abuse. Data gathered by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) shows that it is not the only online platform being used to share such imagery.
However, Amazon appears to be doing little to address the issue according to experts and law enforcement officials. As a result, the app has attracted those wanting to trade the illegal material as they believe there is less risk of detection or bans compared to other internet platforms.
NBC News examined court documents from 72 state and federal child sexual abuse or child pornography prosecutions over the last five years where the defendant was alleged to use the Wickr Me app. The cases were filed in multiple countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

I’m sure it’s just a bug, not a feature. I’m sure any child porn is completely accidental. I’m also sure unicorn farts will be our solution to the energy crisis.
Don’t new iPhones come pre-loaded with that app?
If a few users do anything wrong or offensive, it means the entire app is at fault and should be blocked. At least that’s what cancel culture says. Sorry, Amazon.
Bet Hunter has an account.
Wonder what they will find on Bezos’ Wickr Me account.

“I’m sure it’s just a bug, not a feature”
You prefer messages be unencrypted so big daddy can read them?
Arrest Bezos now!
I’ve never heard of Apple pre-loading any third-party apps. Every iPhone I’ve purchased (two) has only had Apple apps such as Maps, Safari, Podcasts, and Messages, Contacts, Photos, Calendar, Mail, Camera, etc.
Where did you hear that? Or are you just trying to start a rumor here?
“Or are you just trying to start a rumor here?”
Not a rumor, just an Android vs. iPhone, er, discussion.
Oh, so you want a white-hot war?
All colors matter.
End to end encryption attracts, unfortunately, that type.
But it also attracts the attention of governments who HATE end-to-end encryption because they cannot illegally collect the data and store it in Utah.
Maybe this article is true. But I suspect it is grossly exaggerated because our government masters want it exaggerated grossly so they can shut down end-to-end encryption. And, at a minimum, articles like this help the government bully private companies into “cooperating” with the government without search warrants or constiutional due process.
It’s the same with crypto. Articles talking about money laundering and terrorism using crypto are designed to hurt crypto, not money laundering and terrorism. In fact, cash is used to launder money and finances terrorism. As are digital bank accounts. But our government likes them. So no grossly exaggerated articles.
Atari rules,Commodore drools.
Just doing my part to help.😁
Re: 3 - Uh, no.
Big Daddy reads them whether you encrypt them or not. Technology has surpassed any ideas we have. It’s nothing more than a feel good action.
