On a recent long trip down through once lush farm fields in South Carolina to the beach, we noticed about 1/2 of them were not plowed and were unplanted even though the crops should have been earlier planted and growing nicely.
There were also almost no container trucks moving north up I-26 from Charleston Port, either. Usually, the highway is full of them.
It was a foreboding sign.

Now that Joe thinks the war has provided convenient cover for his domestic policy failures, he's basically laughing at the financial misery of the American people.

He’s a bad liar as well. Trump had him pegged way back in 2020 when Trump warned, “If Biden got in, you’d be paying $7, $8, $9. Then they’d say, get rid of your car.”
Now I’m just a simple caveman lawyer/economist, but if the US contributes heavily to the World Food Bank and to the IMF, (which it does), then, allowing Sri Lanka to buy Russian Oil, and, allowing Sri Lanka to get money/aide from the IMF and the WFB, seems to be “robbing Peter to pay Paul.”
Sri Lanka is also seeking financial assistance from the World Food Program, which may send a team to the country soon, and Wickremesinghe is banking on a bailout package from the International Monetary Fund. But even if approved, he doesn’t expect to see money from the package until October onwards.
