Police say the victim of the stolen rifle fired shots at Booker, who was struck multiple times. That victim left the scene, but police believe another man returned moments later and also shot the man who took the rifle. Is there anybody who ISN'T a "victim" in this story? What lousy writing.

Reread. Only one victim is referenced.

I’m totally confused by the writing. No idea how a guy robbed of his gun could shoot the perp.

Not if you believe, like the writer, that the guns are responsible. Then everyone shot with a gun was shot “by the gun” and is therefore the gun’s victim.
