“Understanding that an essential part of being America’s best means being a leader, Swedish Match worked diligently over the past several months to make changes in response to our heightened awareness and our desire to be more inclusive,” said Joe Ackerman, vice president of marketing. “Consumers and diverse agency partners were selected to participate in the rebranding research. It was critical and valuable for us to gain these insights and recommendations to develop America’s Best Chew packaging.”

Red Man was my Grandpa’s favorite.
Is it still “the pick of the pros?”
I think it’s Swedish Match that also has a brand called “Rape”. I really enjoy my snüs. They sell a dry, pouched Swedish snüs in Japan since a couple years ago. It’s finally the only real tobacco snüs that I can get without going all the way downtown to specialty shops that cater to the diplomat crowd. I remember redman when I was young. Good stuff.
Does excluding recognition of a minority group ever serve the interest of inclusivity?
My late granddad used a spitoon.
My late grandma used to threaten to bean him with it if he missed.
Don’t know if she ever did, but grandad loved his chaw...
They just better not mess with Prince Albert in a can.
When will my brand {Levi Garrett} be protested by Jewish folks?
My friends on the rez used to joke that tobacco was red man’s revenge on white man for introducing them to alcohol.
I worked with an old timer from Texas who always wore an oversized Carhartt denim coat that had 4 large pockets. Each pocket had a pouch of Red Man.
1 day I asked him why.
He said “pocket ain’t no good got not no Red Man in it”
At 82, my father still chews Red Man. He says he started when he was 12 years old in rural north Georgia. I used it myself when I was younger, but gave it up long ago.
It seems current leaders of the Native American tribes are happy with the elimination of references to the American Indian in product marketing and sports teams. They currently consider it to be demeaning or inconsiderate, but in most cases it seems that the references are usually in an association with strength, skill, nobility, pride, bravery, honor, winning, or other positive attributes. It will be interesting to see over the next decade or so whether there are regrets if recognition and respect for the Native American population declines because the primary associations of them or media portrayals evolves to gambling, poverty, substance abuse, or other negative connotations.
I prefer Levi Garrett.
But then Red Man should now change its natural , organic product name to “Green Man.” Then we can convine AOC to chew it!
West Virginia cole slaw.
I’m a Levi Garrett man. I had to switch to snuff several years ago because they started taxing tobacco in Texas by weight to fund rural doctors. A pouch went from $4 to $10 overnight. My funniest story is about the time I bought a can of Skoal in Lake Louise, Alberta. I knew I was doomed when they reached into a safe below the counter. $25.
It used to be my favorite. Had to give it up. But it brings back memories.
Grandad lived to tinker and his barn was a treasure trove of neat stuff. He used his tobacco tins to store things in. He had lots of tins.
“in most cases it seems that the references are usually in an association with strength, skill, nobility, pride, bravery, honor, winning, or other positive attributes”
The elites want to crush those attributes in all men that they rule over—that is what this is really about....
