The Washington Post has fired national political reporter Felicia Sonmez, The Daily Beast has confirmed, capping off a week’s worth of highly public drama at the paper.
Both the Post and Sonmez did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Sonmez’s apparent exit from the paper comes after a week of WaPo infighting that stoked heated conversations over newsroom inequity and social-media use, with multiple reporters taking shots at one another in public.
The seemingly unending dramatics began late last week when political reporter Dave Weigel retweeted a sexist post about bisexual women. He later apologized but not before Sonmez publicly called him out along with the paper’s management, writing: “Fantastic to work at a news outlet where retweets like this are allowed!”
Fellow Post reporter Jose A. Del Real then publicly accused Sonmez of “repeated and targeted public harassment of a colleague,” which led to several tweets worth of beefing between the pair until Del Real blocked her.
The ordeal prompted Executive Editor Sally Buzbee issuing a somewhat vague memo telling staffers to play nice. But tensions remained high on Monday as WaPo video technician Breanna Muir reportedly replied-all to the memo to cheer on Sonmez and call out a different colleague for referring to her in a tweet as “Breanna Taylor.” The paper has a “toxic work environment,” Muir wrote in her staff-wide note.
On Tuesday, Buzbee sent out yet another company-wide memo, stating that the paper does “not tolerate colleagues attacking colleagues.” Sonmez, meanwhile, continued to tweet, highlighting critical posts from her colleague as a mockery of Buzbee‘s claim to a “collegial workplace.”
Veteran Post reporter Lisa Rein then stepped in to publicly plead with Sonmez: “Please stop.”
That same afternoon, several high-profile Washington Post reporters, including Josh Dawsey and Ashley Parker, tweeted about how “proud” they are to work at the newspaper.
That kumbaya moment prompted Sonmez to post a lengthy tread on Thursday noting how “the reporters who issued synchronized tweets this week downplaying the Post’s workplace issues have a few things in common.” She added that they are “All white” and “They are among the ‘stars’ who ‘get away with murder’ on social media.”
This is a developing story...
So will Dave Weigel be allowed to return from the Cornfield where he was sent for a month?
The joke missed the third Bi.
On Tuesday, Buzbee sent out yet another company-wide memo, stating that the paper does “not tolerate colleagues attacking colleagues.”The memo went on to state,
"But maliciously attacking and lying about Republicans, Christians, and white males, is what we do."
Sounds like everyone is on the rag at wapo!
What was Weigel “sexlst” post?
I guess when everybody in the office works from home, they have their staff meetings on Twitter. Not a good idea!
Which is?
In his defense, it is funny. Come on leftists, get a sense of humor. : )
Ha...I think Felicia Sonmez just hit the jackpot by getting fired. I’m sure a lawsuit is being prepared as we speak.
Yes, bi bi.
Are the woke waking up?
I for one found it hilarious. I did not show it to my wife, however.
His first response to her “rage” should have been three words; “IT’S A J O K E !!”
So cool your jets, Baby!
Leftists are humorless, like all congenitally angry people.

I hope it is! Watching these deranged morons tangle is good for my heart.
She is now radioactive. Who would hire a world-class troublemaker like that?
