They’re making a mistake. If you want people to surrender, you take them in, put them in almost hotel-like accommodations and feed them well. Then let them call home, their comrades, etc. That way the word gets back to the front and instead of fighting to the death because death is what will happen anyway, soldiers will be inclined to surrender. Think about it. You’re on the front line, surrounded. What happens if you surrender? Death? Okay then, I’ll just take as many Russians with me as I can.
