The so-called court in Donetsk has sentenced to death foreign volunteers who fought with Ukraine against Russia's aggression – one Moroccan and two Britons, according to reports in Russian media.
UK citizens Shaun Pinner, Aiden Aslin and Moroccan Saadun Brahim were charged with being mercenaries and participating in operations aimed at seizure of power and overthrow of the so-called constitutional order of the so-called "Donetsk People's Republic", which is not recognized by anyone but Russia.
According to the media, the foreign volunteers surrendered.
Aiden was sworn into the Ukrainian marines in 2018 and is not a “foreign mercenary.” He is a member of the Ukrainian armed forces. I believe that is also the case for the other Englishman as well.
On the other hand, all Russian professional military are considered “contractors” by their army and are treated as such, hence the projection.
Likely avoid capture until they can get out of Ukraine.
First, they probably have only 50-60 Russians in custody and they are unlikely of mercenary group. Chechens are regulars belonging to the Russian national guards. Second, Ukraine is an aspiring Europeans nation and doesn’t have death penalty.
No mistake. All these foreign specop veterans are free to leave for home.
Even a pro-Russian news agency calls the Chechen scum mercenaries.
“The fighters led by the Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov are fighting hand-to-hand with members of the Azov Battalion resistance in the city of Mariupol. This video shows how mercenaries fighting alongside Russian troops in eastern Ukraine enter a factory in the industrial zone of Aosvstal and shoot at Ukrainian troops.”
If Russia calls these mutts mercenaries then so can a Ukrainian court and a Ukrainian firing squad.
.
Who cares how the ill-informed media parroting Western narratives are calling them? The Chechens in Ukraine are CT units of the national guard.
I never notice bumping actually doing anything
The Chechens are mercenaries. They are not regular troops by any measure and if captured they deserve the same treatment Russia is handing out to mercenaries.
How do you know?:) They are rank and file Russian military.
You’re quoting the last words of a number of Russian war criminals.
The war criminals are all Ukrainian, British and Arab so far. The winner decides on who is the criminal.
Hence Russian war criminals eating their words all over Ukraine.
Oh, pardon me, I forgot. Attacking and being beaten back from one city after another was a brilliant plan on the part of a military “superpower” who only intended to secure the territory they already had in the first place! This sort of brilliant 4D chess is necessary, after all, when attacking the poorest country in Europe.
“No mistake. All these foreign specop veterans are free to leave for home.”
I know Russia is concentrating on winning now. But they should keep in mind that when the war is done, if they’ve committed what the rest of the world considers war crimes then they will have a terrible time ever getting any foreign investment, which they desperately need. But, given what else they’ve done...preventing the sale of foreign owned stocks, the currency manipulation, etc. it will be a hard time getting back into good graces anyway.
funny thing is, they claim they’re doing this operation to secure their borders. No one around them has enough excess population to consider conquest (especially of a nuclear power) as an option. I mean, to be expansionist, you MUST have excess population, and no one does. Even China is on a serious demographic decline. This “operation” was a fantasy on Putin’s part. One analysist even called the way he used tanks “a nostalgia operation” because he used them exactly the way the old Soviets used them. (Which is wasteful of life and material.)
Ukraine has apparently had their own approach for dealing with captured Russians, for some time now...
Here is a very interesting take on why the West got the Russian army so wrong.

I don’t disagree with all your points nor with the isolated points of the video, but that’s basically trees you see and not the forest. The capital restrictions you are mentioning are pretty mild by world standards and they have saved investors tons of money in hindsight. You are also heavily overestimating the need for foreign investment for Russia which proved to be a rather self-sustained entity.
Last but not least, I generally estimated the Russian conventional military as weaker compared to NATO. Now my opinion has changed. I understand that the NATO involvement is rather limited but judging their weapon systems and tactics I think Russia is currently not that far behind the old USSR in countering it and perfectly capable to sustain a large campaign much better than NATO.
Well, you have to admit they’re creative!
You can call them whatever you want. What matters is what a Ukrainian court calls them.
