They also fought a hopeless proxy war for us for years in Indochina as well; they had no interest in fighting it after WWII, but we paid them to do it - then withheld air support from Dien Bien Phu. It isn’t a coincidence that pictures of French soldiers in that war look exactly like US soldiers; we gave them the helmets, radios, planes, etc. - even an aircraft carrier - to fight it.
Right; this is not the time for the US to be pointing fingers at other countries and babbling about “freedom”. The treatment of the January 6 patriots is bad enough, but pales in comparison to a useless lockdown that destroyed many livelihoods - and lives.
Does anyone remember Kirkpatrick's paper noting the difference between authoritarian and totalitarian nations?
I just watched it two weeks ago. Solid flick.
The US is not a democracy. Prior to the stolen 2020 election we were a republic, now we are an oligarchy ruled by uniparty elite donor class.
“When was the last time France was a strong link?”
Probably when they had Napoleon and faced down pretty much the entire planet single-handedly.
No, it is not. It is a war for the order without blocs, but where China is going to call most shots based on its economic weight and the ability of “democracies” to impose policies is going to decrease because they lose credibility.
The US extensive experience in counter insurgency aided this worldwide shift.
Russia was slow to catch on.
But now they have.
Only fools dig out an embedded enemy in an urban environment.
The only sane approach now is to level it. Completely.
“an autocratic camp led by China, and a democratic camp led by the U.S.”
Shouldn’t this read “an autocratic camp led by China, and an autocratic camp led by the U.S.”?
I wouldn’t the “new world order” that has existed for the past 30 years democratic. It’s more of neo-Marxist world order and one that always puts American last.
We are seeing several camps, including Russia, India and Brazil, all led by various forms and degrees of competing self-interested, statist, socialist, corrupt-crony-capitalist governments.
Yes, the BRIC nations. They have become stronger as a result of Biden’s sanctions.
When historians look back in 200 years, they will cite this period as the time when we changed from republic to empire.
The Dims(communists) sure think we are a Democracy and not a Republic. We are at the point where mob rules over the individual rights, especially if you are a communist sympathizer.
Will it become more difficult to subsist, yes, but I won’t submit to their planned tyranny.
We did that right after WW2, or the Spanish American war, depending on your view.
Bump! Agreed.
