AR-15 Is a great weapon for smaller people. They are very light without all the unneeded accessories. There is virtually no recoil.

Plus they can shoot 50 glocks per second with high capacity 1000 magazine clips.

I’ve always heard SOME states outlaw deer hunting with .223/5.56. The argument not enough kill power.

Again not sure if this is accurate, maybe someone can comment, that the 5.56 FMJ was selected by the Army because it was not prone to kill instantly like a larger caliber hollow point would.

The theory that it’s more effective to wound warriors on the battle field than kill them. All the logistics of attempting to save wounded solders would slow down their advance where if they were killed one could keep on advancing.

This could just be urban legend, but I did read something along those lines a while back.

The military is forbidden to used hollow point or other expanding ammunition.

Article IV, Section 3 of the 1899 Hague Convention, which specifically prohibits “the use of bullets which expand or flatten easily in the human body, such as bullets with a hard envelope which does not entirely cover the core, or is pierced with incisions.”

Although we did not ratify this Article, we respect it.

As to .223 being forbidden for deer hunting in some jurisdictions, I’ll defer to FReepers from various locations around the country...

.223 is indeed illegal for hunting in some jurisdictions. And forbidden for some larger game in many more.

You're right - even a basic M4 clone weighs more than 5 pounds, empty. You can get under 5 pounds on a reasonable budget, but it requires a little focus. Years ago, I put a carbine together that came in at 4.75 pounds: Colt 'pencil' barrel w/ adjustable gas block, Anderson 'sporter' upper receiver, vented aluminum float tube, light-weight bolt carrier, and Cav Arms lower. It actually felt like a toy when you picked it up! I think the light weight was why so many GIs loved the M1 carbine, but most of today's ARs are definitely on the "obese" end of the weight range...

I don’t have one - - yet — but after reading this would really like one - as a small, senior citizen female. My long gun are a bit unwieldy so this sounds like a perfect fit for me.
