They voted it in and then decided to keep it. "thank you sir may I have another" comes to mind.

The increase is three pennies per gallon. That is hardly a rounding error these days in California.

Since California government is so fabulous, the tax should be increased by at least 50 cents per gallon.

Governor Gavin Newsom did find time to have the CHP drop charges against Paul Pelosi...

So all is well in CA!

I think they just want to make sure they are still number 1 in gas prices. “We’re number 1, We’re number 1” ......

Pretty sure this won’t matter much to Californians because they all drive EV’s. Right?

One way of working "to stop the increase" is to veto the bill that increases it. Methinks he didn't work too hard. This is simply another "unsuccessful" item to add to his list of failures.

I’d like the writer to give us a bit more detail here, and tell everyone exactly what the greasy bastrid did to try to stop the increase. I’m thinking not much more than ‘no stop don’t... oh, ok’

"Governor Gavin Newsom did find time to have the CHP drop charges against Paul Pelosi..."

At this point, that is nothing but a Twitter rumor that may have started by The_Real_Fly on June 7. The_Real_Fly describes himself as "Man of leisure. Sophisticate. Master Ace stock trader. Champion of Champions."

Snopes is looking into it for us.

LOL...hilarious scene. California electorate. There’ needs to be a cartoon of a California voter bending over with Newsome doing what he does best and the voter with a big smile on his face......fools.

The next California gas tax increase will take effect on July 1, 2022. The new rate will be 53.9 cents per gallon, an increase of 2.8 cents per gallon from 50.5 cents per gallon

Georgia collects a state excise tax of 28.7 cents per gallon, according to a January 2022 report. So it is just about DOUBLE!

They should triple gas taxes, quadruple property taxes, and impose a new F** YOU tax.

There was talk of the Legislature suspending the fax tax for a year and now… crickets. I guess they’re too busy counting the budget surplus up around $100 billion to worry about such things

He couldn’t veto the tax increase.
