I shot PD’s with every from 22LR handguns to 458 caliber big game rifles.
Don’t think I ever shot one with a shotgun.
Not that one couldn’t.
They are high on the pest scale. Poison is too random. Because the holes they dig, LOTS OF THEM, break cattle legs, and the cattle have to be put down?
The holes destroy ag machinery, so, what is your pleasure? Eating or cute. Choose one.
Never could get close enough. They are wary as hell, and all duck into the warren with one chirp.

And yes, “without prairie dogs, there would be no other wild species on the prairie at all,” is something to consider. Sounds like they are doing a fine job. It amazes me what people can do :)
