In late February, Russian propaganda attempted to instill terror into Ukrainians by claiming that up to 70,000 Chechen fighters were headed to Ukraine to support Russian troops.
With a population of about 1.2 million, Chechnya is a Russian republic in Eastern Europe’s volatile North Caucasus region, which saw the rise of jihadist groups in the 1990s. The region’s predominant religion is Islam, which is strictly enforced by government authorities. Chechnya is run by a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who makes sure it remains firmly in the Kremlin’s orbit.
The legend of Chechen warriors stretches back nearly 200 years. From 1829 to 1859, the Chechens fought against the Russian Empire. More than 100 years later, Chechnya defeated its former imperial masters in the first Russian-Chechnya War from December 1994 to August 1996.

Known as “Kadyrovtsy,” the Chechen fighters loyal to Kadyrov have a fearsome reputation for cruelty. In 2006, the group Human Rights Watch found that Kadryov’s forces were systematically torturing prisoners, some of whom would disappear without a trace. Those disappearances had become so widespread “that they constitute crimes against humanity,” the group determined.
In Ukraine, the Kadyrovtsy have taken part in the Russian military’s efforts to capture Mariupol and Chechen units also operated near the Kyiv suburb of Bucha, where the bodies of hundreds of civilians were discovered after the Russians retreated.
While the Chechens are taking part of the Ukraine invasion, they do not fall under the Russian military’s chain of command.
“The Chechen fighters report up to their leadership, to Ramazan Kadyrov, who reports to Putin,” Farkas told Task & Purpose. “There is no formal relationship with the Russian military command and these Chechen fighters are known for their brutality. As for effectiveness, they certainly are effective at terrorizing populations.”

I’ll take Boston Marathon Bombers for 100, Alex.
I was just reminded of that movie act of valor. I think the villain was a Chechen, unless I’m mistaken.
Cossacks know how to deal with Chechens, Tartars and Turks.
They are Muslim Jihadists.
They are the saviors who will rescue us from the globalists.
Be veeerrry afraid Ukraine.
“Chechen fighters were part of the lengthy siege of Mariupol, but they were unable to capture the Azovstal steel plant until the Ukrainians surrendered.”
LOL, gives away the bias here. Perhaps they were ORDERED by Putin to NOT try to take the steel plant, which was the case.
Isn’t it always only after a surrender do you take the place you are attacking?
Unless, of course, you burn the place down with them in it.

Yea, Russia had options - they could fight their way in and take it that way, or they could soak it in gasoline and finish them off that way.
But both of the above would make them martyrs, whereas videos of them surrendering to Russian troops, and being treated by Russian medics, is as HUMILIATING as things get, without being war crimes, of course.
As a matter of fact, Chechens are feared all over Mid East.
They were part of ISIS and they get hired as mercenaries. All the Arabs are scared of them.
They also hate Russians so there is actually a group of Chechen volunteers fighting on the Ukrainian side.
Very complicated!
Muslims pure and simple
‘Perhaps they were ORDERED by Putin to NOT try to take the steel plant, which was the case.’
Also, they did not take Kyiv in 3 days because they were ordered by Putin not to take it.
“Also, they did not take Kyiv in 3 days because they were ordered by Putin not to take it.”
I’m not sure they could have anyway, as they only had around 30,000 troops in position. The working theory was that Kiev was a feint, in order to tie-down much of Ukraine’s army near Kiev, so to prevent them from reaching Mariupol in time, as Mariupol, the darling of the Neocons due to its huge numbers of Nazis, was the top target for Russia at the beginning of the war.
I would have cemented the doors shut where those Neo-Nazis were hiding. Would have made a nice tomb.
“Kadyrovtsy” are not real soldiers. They don’t bother learning the boring soldiering stuff and are not useful in real combat. They like to inject steroids, lift weights and train in kickboxing to be a force against regular civilians.
In Russia their role is to terrorize, kill and torture those who don’t bow to Kremlin.
In Ukraine they are called Tiktok troops because all they do is make stupid videos of themselves pretending to fight while others do the real fighting and dying.
Here are few:

As it was, the Russians did like them know they were ‘knocking’.
LOL, you're ridiculous. Read about battle for Antonov airport north of Kyiv, where Russian Airborne Forces had tremendous losses. Security analyst Andrew McGregor called the battle a "Russian Airborne Disaster".

“LOL, you’re ridiculous.”
Are you reading the Daily Mail again? How many times do you need to be told not to.
Sorry, but you lose all credibility by calling the attempted Russian attack on Kyiv a "feint". Those 30,000 Russian troops would have been very useful taking Donbas and Luhansk immediately, instead of the WW1 meatgrinder its turned into.
