Her husband was always pretty well off. They had met and married in their native Baltimore and moved to CA, which was where Nancy’s brother had gotten into SF politics and then she followed him on the Board of Supervisors and got her start.
She had been involved in Baltimore stuff because she had interned for a Maryland senator just after she graduated college.
I was living in SF when she got elected, posing as an Italian American “of the people”...from her Pacific Heights mansion. I couldn’t stand her.
Her Dad was involved in Boston politics and was Mayor at one time. Interesting nugget. On September 21, 1966, President Lyndon Baines Johnson’s assistant Mildred Stegall requested a routine FBI name check on D’Alesandro. FBI records released on January 6, 2021 showed D’Alesandro had been the subject of a Special Inquiry investigation in March and April of 1961 revealing numerous unsubstantiated allegations of association with criminals in Baltimore.
