Weeks after State Sen. Doug Mastriano won the Republican primary for governor, the party is doing its best to coalesce around him.
In some cases, the support is begrudging.
Mastriano’s win was an upset for the party’s establishment, who believed his focus on disproven 2020 election fraud theories and vocal support for no-exception abortion bans would make him unelectable against Attorney General Josh Shapiro, the Democrats’ consensus nominee.
Insiders tried to coordinate a last-minute coalition to box Mastriano out in the crowded Republican primary, but it failed decisively. Mastriano won with about 44% of the GOP vote.
One Republican operative, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the tone of the GOP push to elect Mastriano now feels to him like a pep rally before a football game everyone knows the team is doomed to lose.
The party, he said, is at the mercy of the GOP’s “crazy base.” The operative said he wouldn’t vote for either Mastriano or Shapiro.
Others are feeling more optimistic. Though Mastriano has been especially outspoken about his election fraud theories and Christian values, those beliefs aren’t far outside the party’s current mainstream. Most other GOP gubernatorial candidates also questioned 2020 election results and supported, for instance, near-total abortion bans.

Stupid RINOs just need to get out of the way.
I want these Romney never Trumpers to tell me what specific policies they disagreed with under Trump.
I get the rhetoric was stressful for some but what policy would they change?
Biden changed every single thing. Look where we are?
its your turn to hold your nose
“his focus on disproven 2020 election fraud “
Well that is lie. Exactly when was it “disproven”?
BS unnamed source says that Trump didn't win PA and therefor Mastriano won't win either. This is what the establishment RINO's think.
If Trump really did win, I believe that he did, it's not too hard to imagine that Mastriano will win too.
And yet the base is expected to turnout for whatever rino they hoist. At some point we are going to have to rip the bandaid off this festering sore and treat the establishment the way they treat their base. Of course it will be painful, but voting for an establishment Republican is voting for the managed decline of America.
When the deep state and their media minions refused to look at the evidence.
who believed his focus on disproven 2020 election fraud
just because they say it is, doesn’t prove it was.
2000 mules comes to mind
That is the usual opinion hit piece disguised as reporting. Only one of the reasons I find the news insufferable. These people are no longer able to even pretend they’re not carrying the Left’s water.
According to Ben the Sasse-y Sissy, MAGA is all about “worshipping one dude”.
If Mastiano, Kari Lake, Herschel Walker, JD Vance, and Blake Masters all get elected, they’ll have to come up with a new narrative.
Right after they proved that Russian prostitutes peed on Trump’s hotel bed!
The third sentence of this article tells you all you need to know about it’s author.
The party, he said, is at the mercy of the GOP’s “crazy base.”
As long as he clearly understands that. Yes, you cowards are at our mercy. There are limits.
LOL....RINOS agree with all of Trump’s policies in theory. But these policies were never supposed to be implemented in practice. That’s why the RINOS exist...to talk about this stuff, while making sure it never gets put into place.
When DeSantis gets reelected convincingly should he scold the Florida voters for letting Gillium get so close the first time? Mastriano is not convincing and will have to earn the voters’ good graces, hopefully as a governor. DeSantis was a straight shooter all along. Big city mayor on paper sounds good but look at all the big cities.
Bigly.
The worst stinking RINO is still better than any democrat. That said, anytime we can replace a RINO with a real conservative, we should.
If Mastriano hadn’t pushed to get rid of HIPPA protections early in covid I would probably be excited about him, but during covid his initial reaction was to tyranny not liberty so I don’t fully trust him…. But will vote for him.
