(CNN)Their mission was to break into the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, bug the room and photograph documents. If everything had gone as planned, no one would have ever known.

But instead June 17, 1972, became an infamous day. The burglary set off a series of actions that brought down Republican President Richard Nixon -- the only US president to resign.

"Watergate is the largest political scandal in American history," John Dean, who was White House counsel to Nixon, told CNN for the Original Series "Watergate: Blueprint for a Scandal," which commemorates its 50th anniversary.

That was peanuts compared to the Trump/Russia collusion delusion.

The main problems the watergate spies faced is they weren't FBI agents like the ones who spied on Trump.

Obama's and Biden's use of the FBI for political spying on opponents makes Nixon look like a choir boy, who if I'm not mistaken his only crime in the matter was covering up what someone else did.

It was all so unnecessary. Nixon beat McGovern in a landslide.

Yup if Nixon had acted like a Democrat and thrown the “plumbers” under the bus he would have finished out his second term.🤔

The reason Watergate progressed as a “case” was BECAUSE of John Dean TURNING on Nixon. Why did he do this— BECAUSE his wife Maureen (Mo)Dean was a hooker (call girl) and was in the catalogue of horizontal engineers kept by the DNC at the Watergate office. This call girl book was taken by the burglars among other items, money books for walking around cash, etc., and was captured with the burglars by the police for the charge of robbery made against them.

Once Dean found out Maureen (and her photo) was in the DNC hooker book seized from the burglars and entered into evidence-— he FLIPPED on Nixon. Dean is one noodle spined a@@hole for life, who was a customer of Maureen’s— and not much of a winner with women being the lily livered dweeb he still is. He has made a career AVOIDING the truth of the matter and the DNC hooker book. This was well researched in major book back in those days. Democrats and their pals are really all whores. Nothing new— and uh, repub crossovers take part in the whoring and they have them by the short hairs ever after.

G. Gordon Liddy was. I recommend his book, "Will". He said the only book about Wagergate that's any good is "Silent Coup".

Who cares? We've had a dozen scandals more serious under Obama and Biden.

Obama and Hillary got away with things Nixon could only dream of doing.

Dean planned it and pushed it.

It was mainly for Dean's own purposes, then he turned on Nixon.

Read the book, Silent Coup. Very detailed, good evidence.

Thanks, that must be a fantastic book. Makes sense because Nixon was surrounded by snakes including but not limited to that treacherous bast*turd Shafer.
