DeSantis beats Trump in 2024 straw poll a second time at Colorado conservative summit

Gov. Ron DeSantis once again swept a straw poll for 2024 presidential candidates at a Colorado conservative conference Saturday, beating out former former President Donald Trump and other possible contenders.

The attendees of the Western Conservative Summit, organized by the Centennial Institute, a think tank associated with Colorado Christian University, approved of a potential DeSantis candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination at 71%, with Trump coming in at 67%.

The straw poll was conducted based on an "approval" system, which allowed attendees to vote for more than one candidate that they could support.

DeSantis won the 2024 straw poll last year at the Western Conservative Summit, narrowly edging out Trump. DeSantis received 74% approval to Trump's 71% in 2021.

There aren’t any conservatives left in Colorado. Dumbass Californians took over that state a long time ago. Colorado is just another California but with trees and mountains.

It does. Lots of them.

Sadly, overwhelmed by all the liberals in the Denver metro area, Colorado Springs and Boulder.

8 years of DeSantis, 4 years of Trump. When Biden is done with his 4, it will take more than 4 years to fix most of the broken stuff.

I would prefer DeSantis to Trump. Not only does Trump have a lot of negatives that would make him more difficult to be elected, but DeSantis is actually a social conservative. Trump is probably a social moderate at best.

He woulda gotten my straw, too. DeSantis/Paul 2024

Same here. I would wholeheartedly support that ticket (though we need a few more Rand Pauls in the senate).

I have zero enthusiasm for a third Trump campaign. He's just too old. Of course, if he gets the nod, I'll vote for him but I'm not going to support him in the primaries unless by some crazy reason he's the only "America First" candidate running.

And what a shame that would be.

The purpose of the 1/6 committee is to prevent Trump from running again, I think they will indict him on some made up charge that would prevent him from running. They are desperate to stop him from running, indictment is one way to do that.

So a partisan BS indictment by a partisan Democrat can stop somebody from running? Really?

The Democrats control the DOJ and many local AG's. So then the Democrats can indict any candidate they don't like?

Please stop.

Trump gets it done in spades, he’s proven his mettle in the maelstrom but yeah let’s get someone ELSE in there because Trump is “divisive” or “mean”. And plus the media will totally lay off the new guy.

Trump is probably a social moderate at best.

Trump was the most socially liberal Republican president since Nixon.

Odd too, as both men were equally hated by the Left more than any other GOP president.

If the coup installed Biden is allowed 4 years, the swamp isn’t going to install Trump or DeSantis afterwards.

I like Trump a lot but would vote for DeSantis for two reasons.....He appears to be better at picking people for key positions that fully support his agenda and he knows when to keep his mouth shut.

Colorado GOP keeps putting up lukewarm candidates who have no passion and who are muted by their financial backers.

That has caused many conservatives to register Unaffiliated.

Then they don't bother to vote, so the Dems win. (well, that and cheating by Dems)

This year failed to attract strong candidates because nobody can fight Polis $millions. (Although Heidi is running a strong campaign)

Trump gets it done in spades

DeSantis gets things done. Trump blew his last year in office. Granted, Trump had to face a solidified opposition from both his party and from the Democrats like no other GOP president ever had before. The Mueller investigation was BS. The impeachments were show trials. Paul Ryan stabbing him in the back, retiring, and taking 40 GOP house members along with him screwed him immensely, but the last year he blew it big time.

Remember Trump's "Platinum Plan" --$500 billion in reparations to blacks? That wasn't the Trump I voted for.

Trump's many problems was that he spent too much effort trying to get people who hated him to like him and he surrounded himself with swamp creatures. He'd have been better served had he listened more to Ann Coulter and less to Javanka.

“The “lame duck” problem”

The lame duck thing has always been nonsense. Every second term is a “lame duck” with that logic. A “lame duck” Trump presidency is worth more than countless two term democrat presidencies.
