Rudy is many great things. But running point for Trump's post-election legal strategy was a job for which he was out of his league. That press conference was a symptom.

Trump should have benched Rudy, but Trump didn't out of loyalty. Now, I appreciate loyalty. But Deplorable nation needed a legal pit bull. We got grampa, and now we have Bidet.

Maybe the legal deck was stacked against us, and a good legal field commander would have failed, too. We will never know.

PLEASE PULL THIS THREAD. IT IS A DISGRACE.

First, central_va, I’m a fan of your posts.

Now that the patronizing is finished…

As Republicans, we shouldn’t be monolithic in our choices of candidates, only our ideology — and even that is subject to some nuance.

An election is coming. A highly — if not the highest ever — critical one. Not all of us are fans of Trump. In my case, I campaigned for him in ‘16, but he wasn’t my choice in the primaries. The same will out this go around.

There are other choices out there that some on the right feel would be better selections at the outset. It’s called coalitions, and they are extremely valuable, especially when combining them later to fill in any gaps one candidate or another has — and Trump has several, as does DeSantis. If you want to grind away the Bush/Cheney/Romney side of the party, these coalitions will be necessary to combine forces and fight. I’m certain that any DeSantis supporter in the primary will be enthusiastic supporters of Trump in the general.

In another earlier comment, you said Trump or nothing. This is antithetical to coalition building, and leads to fractures that bring Obamas, Clintons, Bidens, and yes, even Bush/Cheneys.

Allow the primary season to sort itself out. Most of us have the same goals, just different choices of vehicles to get there. I would suggest we not alienate those we will need to fight alongside of in the future…

I hate to having reservations about a man who has shown himself to be a real leader. But while he is popular with the GOP base I don’t think that ‘confidence’ extends into the upper echelons of the party’s poobahs. He’s not Deep State enough for them and worse, they might not be able to control him. I fear they will undermine him, if they’re not already doing it.

I view his possible candidacy as having two obstacles. The party apparatus itself and a vicious media that will portray him as a soulless conservative autocrat. The question is can he shed that image and appeal to enough people to get elected?

Again, I would vote for him in a heart beat but realize not every voter appreciates the qualities we do. If I was advising him I’d suggest he go on a charm offensive right after the elections. It just might work.

It was this.

What’s interesting is that Tulsi Gabbard was a featured speaker. Rumor is she’s positioning for a VP slot on the next GOP Presidential ticket.

I would prefer 4 years of Trump and then 8 years of DeSantis. That would be 12 years of decent leadership.

That sounds like the perfect plan.

We got an election that was stolen. It was so obvious, yet the Democrats got away with it. We have ostriches like Varney who refuse to look back and learn from it so, we are bound to repeat the event. Question is if the Dems will steal enough the Congressional elections to keep the House and Senate this November.

"Doubt Trump could beat him in Florida ......"

Where's the proof of this? We had this discussion a month ago in Ron DeSantis and Tim Scott are the ticket to beat Trump, and you lost. Shame you weren't there ......

DeSantis...very popular with the GOP base across the country right now.

*************

As I said in my reply a few days ago I like DeSantis. But after watching the unfolding economic debacle in this country I’m not sure he’s got the economic chops to get us out of this mess. Its going to take someone with a business/financial/negotiating background like Trump had to clean it. DeSantis is great on a lot of issues but I question his ability to lead an economic revival. JMHO

Free Republic was once the sbhinging light of Conservatism. It is nothing more than “Normie Central”, which has played a major part in where our country is today.

Neo-Cons allowed the 2020 election to be stolen. They allowed our country to be shut down by the sam Covid-19. The have put our nation in a position to have it’s citizens guns to be taken away.
