Russia hits Kyiv with missiles; Putin warns West on arms

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia took aim at Western military supplies for Ukraine’s government with early Sunday airstrikes in Kyiv that it said destroyed tanks donated from abroad, a claim denied by a Ukrainian official. Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that any Western deliveries of long-range rocket systems to Ukraine would prompt Moscow to hit “objects that we haven't yet struck.”

The cryptic threat of a military escalation from the Russian leader didn't specify what the new targets might be, but it comes days after the United States announced plans to deliver $700 million of security assistance for Ukraine. Those weapons include four precision-guided, medium-range rocket systems, helicopters, Javelin anti-tank weapon systems, radars, tactical vehicles and more.

Military analysts say Russia is hoping to overrun Ukraine's embattled eastern industrial Donbas region, where Russia-backed separatists have fought the Ukrainian government since 2014, before any U.S. weapons that might turn the tide arrive. The Pentagon said last week it will take at least three weeks to get the precision U.S. weapons onto the battlefield.

Ukraine’s General Staff said Russian forces fired five X-22 cruise missiles from the Caspian Sea toward Kyiv, and one was destroyed by air defenses. Four others missiles hit “infrastructure facilities,” but Ukraine said there were no casualties. Nuclear plant operator Energoatom said one cruise missile buzzed close to the Pivdennoukrainsk nuclear plant, 350 kilometers (220 miles) to the south, and warned of the catastrophic dangers if such a near miss turned into a direct hit.

In a posting on the Telegram app, the Russian Defense Ministry said high-precision, long-range air-launched missiles were used. It said the strikes on the outskirts of Kyiv destroyed T-72 tanks supplied by Eastern European countries and other armored vehicles located in buildings of a train car repair business.

Using Cruise missiles to take out T-72 tanks.

Wasted resource, unless Russia was seeking psych impact.

Why have they not struck the main government buildings in Kiev? Theories?

They miss what the attempt to stride very often. In Lviv the Russians missed the railyards and hit flat blocks near my nephew’s apartment. Missiles sometimes have faulty guidance. Jets no longer regularly drop conventional bombs because they are too freaked-out by the anti-aircraft missiles.

We are providing Ukraine with intelligence which is helping them be more effective than otherwise, e.g. dead Russian generals.

I'm sure Russia has their satellites and spies and can identify and destroy only those targets that make military sense.

I didn’t find “hitting decision making centers” cryptic at all.
Thought Rus has targeted military stockpiles around Kiev in response to the missiles being lobbed in Lugansk, Donetsk the last couple days.
I think Rus has been pretty restrained in response to the last 8 years.

Using Cruise missiles to take out T-72 tanks.

It is not a one missile/one tank situation and Russia currently overproduces cruise missiles.

Also, tanks supplied by the West need to be repaired, and Russia takes out repair facilities. One important target in Kiev destroyed — perhaps more so than tanks — is the railroad repair plant, this is a nice addition to already deeply wounded railroad system.

As for not taking out Zel and assorted scum around him — many theories around.

If I were Putin I’d definitely care about Zel staying well and in power for as long as possible! Do notice that his reputation on this forum is now of a clown, why should we think that Ukes are not coming to the same conclusion? He is becoming poisonous and a coup in Kiev — by perhaps yet another Brandon’s puppet but still a destabilizing coup — is not out of question.

Before long we may see Zel playing with a piano.. piano wire, to be precise.

Washington, London, Brussels — to begin with. This was very clearly stated.

Using Cruise missiles to take out T-72 tanks.

Using Anti-Ship Kh-22 Cruise missiles to take out T-72 tanks.

Using very expensive missiles designed to hit moving, maneuvering targets on stationary targets shows the extent of the Orc™ (trigger word) depletion of its missile stocks and or the very poor tactical decisions by commanders or both.

What faulty guidance?:) Tell them to ask their military to stop firing SAMs on missiles within city limits.

Now if you want real bombing, here is the Ukrainian strike on downtown Donetsk yesterday.

Where is the outrage?

If you want it to stop, tell Ze to surrender at last.

I’ve been following some of the “War Blogs” that go into great detail. It appears that Russia is gearing up to either make another stab at Kiev or at least wants Ukraine to think they are. Basically, the problem for Russia right now is that by pulling out of all areas but the Donbas Region, Ukraine has essentially moved all their forces to the same region bottling up the Russian advance, so Russia is trying to put some pressure in other areas to force some of the Ukrainian forces to pull back in defense of Kiev and other cities.

Because there are no decision makers to be found at that location.😃

It doesn’t sound like tank plinking. It sounds like they hit a yard where armor was being massed after obtaining it from NATO. Hitting them at the marshaling yard is better than waiting till they deploy towards the eastern zone.

If Zelensky is truly the ‘globohomo comedian clown’ you guys say he is then what do you call Putin who can’t defeat Zelensky?

Allow your enemy a way of giving up. Don't create a martyr to unify the country even more.

What's best is if they show Zelensky to be weak and start groveling for help or negotiations.

The worst thing to do would be to kill Zelensky.

It's going to be real hard to run a country with 60% of your population in Poland and Germany.

Because Zelensky is immaterial to Putin, the fight is over the fate of the entire Humanity, and so far Putin is doing just fine — according even to Westerners, like Kissinger.

Entire Ukraine is just a part of it, it needs to be cured and not merely conquered. And it is happening, slowly and steadily.

The clown will end up in an exile or eliminated by his own people, in the big picture this does not even matter, albeit I cannot deny that the ideal solution is for the Ukrainians to give him a trial based on current laws of Ukraine and then gallows. Clown or not, he did enough to deserve this.. and as an aspiring actor, he should not be denied this final role.

As far as what I call Putin.

I call Putin a dictator. I don’t call him a “nice” guy, or an “honest” guy or a “smart” guy or a “great military” leader... he is a dictator. He killed, maimed, blackmailed and crawled up the political morass that is the Russian political jungle. He is an alpha predator and is concerned about..... himself and possibly Russia.

But I can guarantee that he doesn’t give a sh#t about what anybody in the west thinks. He is screwed by demographics, geography and a failed economic/political system. But he is predictable if you look at the world through his eyes as the leader of Russia.

I call our “leaders” the kleptocrats. The parasites and quislings that would sell our country out, destroy our armed forces, cripple our economy, corrupt our culture by destroying the family and demoralizing our children.

As far as this “war” or “police action” or “security attack”... it’s not over. He isn’t running for election and doesn’t give a cr#p about his “popularity”. ...and all those that are cheerleading for Putin to die or be replaced in a coup.. well be wary of getting what you wish for.

Think about the man that could survive and slither up the political stairs to power in Russia. He will also be a alpha predator. He will NOT be a pro-western “nice guy”. We should pray he’s KGB and not a military guy.
