The recent violence is prompting one House Democrat to draft a measure aimed at severely restricting access to the AR-15-style weapons used by different gunmen in the carnage. Rep. Donald Beyer of Virginia, a member of the tax-writing Ways and Means panel, wants to impose a 1,000% excise tax on assault weapons.
New AR-15-style guns range from $500 to over $2,000 depending on location, NBC News reported. That means a 1,000% tax on the weapon would add $5,000 to $20,000 to their final sales price — and would probably keep it out of reach from many younger Americans.
That probable outcome prompted Beyer to eye reconciliation, the legislative tactic allowing proposed laws to bypass the Senate's 60-vote threshold known as the filibuster and pass with a simple majority. Democrats employed the maneuver in 2021 to push through the stimulus law and the House-approved Build Back Better bill over united GOP resistance.

what does that mean to Depravedocrats?
It will happen over time, perhaps it starts by indoctrinating people in schools that ignoring the constitution is justified considering its origins and the tyranny it established.
Basically, start making ignoring the Constitution a mainstream idea in the minds.
Exactly. Our Founding fathers even knew that truth
“The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”
- Thomas Jefferson, Commonplace Book (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria), 1774-1776
Exactly.
There is no such thing as a ghost gun, forget the word salad, focus group tested weasel words.
Yup Biden hi self said in his speech the other night “the second amendment is not absolute”, or permanent, or some such nonsense. The left are attacking the constitution, and they aren’t even trying to hide it anymore
The National Firearms Act of 1934 didn’t ban machine guns, silencers, or short-barreled shotguns and rifles, but rather placed a then-outrageous $200 tax on them.
Today, after 88 years of inflation, $200 is not that prohibitive of a tax.
The gun-grabbers have learned their lesson not to set a dollar amount but rather a percentage tax on these firearms.
And the Third Amendment isn’t absolute! Given the ongoing insurrection by invisible White Supremacists and Pepe Frogs, we must be prepared to quarter our soldiers/sailors/airmen/Marines/CG/Antifa/BLM/FBI/migrants in our homes without input by Congress!
For historical reference and perspective, the tea tax that led to the Boston Tea Party in 1773 was a mere 3%. It became central to the “taxation without representation” argument of the times. Today, we have representative but they believe they know better than the Founders on the subject of God-given rights and want to impose confiscatory taxes on the implements of those rights.
New promo: buy this $900.00 can of coffee and we will throw in a free AR-15
Mmmmm frog legs
If you can’t afford to buy one yourself, you could make one yourself (except that Democrats want to ban “ghost guns”) or you could be lent one by a friend (except that Democrats want to criminalize “transfers” without a background/registration check, that you must pay for).
“ They may be quietly saying that, but when the time comes for a vote, only Manchin or Sinema might actually vote no.”
We’ll, never rule out Lindsay or Mitt crossing that aisle in a show of bi-partisanship.
robably keep it out of reach from many younger poorer and minority Americans.

Who likely buy them much cheaper out of the trunk of some vehicle in the ‘hood.
They will get the 50
It’s a law that is legal under the 2nd Amendment but is probably open to challenge for other constitutional reasons. Regardless it’s also a stupid law and one which would accomplish absolutely nothing.
I don’t think this works under reconciliation. Funding changes are a permitted maneuver under reconciliation, but only as it pertains to funding an existing program with explicitly targeted money that already exists — and not in an annual way. It’s considered impractical to maneuver such a thing through relevant committees.
This would have to have widespread GOP support. Dems from rural gun owning districts should start getting phone calls. Their House majority may not be sufficient to force this even through the House.
You’re confusing the cost of a gun with a tax on its sale.
I read somewhere that something like 34 million MSRs were sold in last ten years. Getting rid of MSRs would be like putting toothpaste back in the tube. Getting rid of AOW semi-autos is nigh on impossible as they have been around since Bonnie and Clyde. There has to be well over a 100 million of those in circulation as rifles, shotguns and pistols. There will be a lot of smoke and mirrors and liberal back slapping, but nothing of substance will be done.
I have mentioned and read comments that generally begin with “back in the day this never happened because…….” Yes, many of us were raised with guns. For some guns and a dog we're almost a right of passage. One difference does stand out. Those of us around at that time took “mental” institutions for granted. The system was abused as power corrupts. More patients, more money and power hence less desire to actually cure anyone. But, many of the truly criminally insane we're kept out of society. We did not drug our children to make them passive nor did we spend our youth as shut-ins on social media and computer games. Somehow we have reached a point where the institution in “One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest” is looking like a microcosm of American. Where the evil head nurse is a composite representation of our government. Oh crap…..with Biden in charge, the inmate really is running the asylum.😂
well, except for poor or minority members of gangs.
