ISO: Drug similar to fentanyl, but 20X more potent finds way into Florida
News-4 ^

Posted on 06/03/2022 4:19:32 PM PDT by TigerClaws

A fairly new drug is finding its way into the U.S., and law enforcement personnel say it’s 20 times more potent than fentanyl.

It’s called ISO, which is short for isotonitazene. The Drug Enforcement Administration says drug dealers are mixing it with other illegal drugs, making them more potent.

“It is here. It’s present, and how potent this is — it’s not worth the one time they might use it. It’s not worth that extra high they might get because that could be their only time or their last time,” said Britney Morris, public information officer for the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

The drug is so powerful that is someone were to overdose, it would take multiple doses of Narcan to reverse the effects.

ISO was first identified in 2019 in the Midwest, but now it’s popping up in the Southern U.S. and along the Eastern Seaboard. As of publication, there were no reported cases of the drug in Northeast Florida, but the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office recently confirmed two overdose deaths from 2021 that were caused by ISO.

It was tested out in the field, and it tested as fentanyl, but when we sent it off to the FDLE (Florida Department of Law Enforcement) lab, it actually tested as ISO,” Morris explained.

And now they’re awaiting FDLE lab results to see if ISO is the cause of more recent overdose deaths.

Here is what the DEA knows about this drug:

It was never approved for medical use and is being sourced out of China. In powder form, it can appear yellow, brown or off-white. Like fentanyl, an accidental overdose can happen if ISO is ingested, inhaled or absorbed into the skin. DEA regional labs are finding ISO is being used to make counterfeit oxycodone pills.

Investigators are also finding ISO mixed with heroin and fentanyl.

“There may be an individual who is purchasing this and thinks it’s fentanyl,” Morris said. “Maybe they’ve used fentanyl before and they are not going to know it’s ISO until it’s too late or until lab results come back.”

Right now, ISO deaths are relatively low compared to fentanyl, but authorities say this emerging drug is something to keep an eye on.

So powerful, that if you hold it up to the window...
the shadow falling on your arm will cause you to overdose.

This could be a good thing! My BFF took my idea and ran with it.

Imagine

Imagine there’s no junkies!
It’s easy if you try.
No pushers on the corners,
And no one there to buy!

Imagine no more burglaries!
No needles on the ground!
No human pee or feces-
Messing up the town!

Chorus:

You might say that I’m a Nazi-
And you might flip me the bird!
And maybe we’ll lose millions!
But we gotta cull the herd!

Fentanyl has been killing more people than guns for several years.

Ah, c’mon. Think what a wonderful world we would all wake up to if every junkie out there just overdosed. In one night.

Our crime rate would go to nearly nothing - especially the kind of petty shoplifting, burglary and theft where junkies commit crimes to buy drugs. Our prisons would suddenly empty out. About 85% of the inmates are there for drug related crimes. We would lose billions in welfare and medical costs taking care of the losers. Our workforce would no longer have to take care of people who put themselves into a position of addiction. Families could move on from having to constantly worry about their junkie kid or sibling. Think of the marginal addicts, the casual users. Let them see millions of deaths and maybe they will stop using for good. Drug use would no longer be cool in school.

Junkies are dead weight on any society, and I feel not one bit of sympathy for them. I wish that you could see close up how they destroy families and lives and whole communities.

The sorry alternative to the Singapore solution . . . which actually transformed a city-state of 10% opioid junkies when it became independent into 10% millionaires now.

In certain countries you get the death penalty for possession of more than a set amount of certain drugs...heroin,cocaine,etc. I'd like that here...death penalty, first offense!

Yup...on my first visit to Singapore I saw, while waiting in line to hit the Customs/Immigration desk,a sign in several languages saying "Death Penalty For Drug Traffickers Under Singapore Law"

I nearly pooped my pants despite never having done drugs.

That could not happen here. Democracies are lousy at solving these kinds of problems, especially when you have two parties, one is extremely criminal and wants to stay in power.

If our junkies and dealers were suddenly dead, I think you would see businesses come back to America. It is not just greed that drives them overseas, but a lousy workforce here too. I mean, who would you rather hire, Shemeeka of the Hood, who is barely literate, lazy, and resentful, or Won Ho Lee, who will bust her butt to work for you?

You’re done in Malaysia if caught with anything entering even if you aren’t trafficking. If you’re on a prescription and have paperwork, you’re still taking a chance. Not worth it, don’t bother going if you’re going to have to carry anything even if it’s legal where you came from.

Give it away. As much as the druggies want. Push up overdose numbers to 250k-350K per year and over the next 10 years and reduce the crimes, violence …. Let them kill them self’s.

Yep. Governments legalize it incrementally and the backroom chemists invent something even more deadly.

Almost make one wonder whose side the chemists are on? They are going to eradicate their customer base.
