China Launching Third Aircraft Carrier Friday? Docks Cleared At Jiangnan Shipyard

China has cleared the docks at a shipyard in Shanghai, reportedly for the much-anticipated launch of its third aircraft carrier. The vessel, Type 003, is said to be under construction in the Jiangnan Shipyard on Changxing Island.

A notice issued by the Maritime Safety Administration last Friday said the No 3 and No 4 docks of the shipyard are being cleared for an operation involving five large vessels. The operation carried out Monday involved five platforms, three tugboats and two salvage ships.

Though no official statement has been made about the carrier yet, speculations are rife that the clearing operation appeared designed to prepare the way for the launch Friday, reported South China Morning Post.

Chinese military sources said the launch of the Type 003 vessel will coincide with the Dragon Boat Festival. Beijing-based naval expert Li Jie told the news outlet that this Friday would be a "good day for the birth of the "third child." "Third child" is a nickname used by Chinese social media for the carrier.

With drone and missile technology, these are becoming obsolete. They are pretty much status symbols.

Approximately Nimitz class in size with EMALS, but uses conventional power.

Did you know that $40B we just pi$$ed away in Ukraine would have purchased 2 brand new Ford Class carrier battle groups? The imbeciles in the White House and Pentagon sure have problems with priorities.

“China has cleared the docks at a shipyard in Shanghai, reportedly for the much-anticipated launch of its third aircraft carrier.”

Meanwhile, Biden has our military squandering time and money on global warming, equity and social justice.

China has a shipbuilding industry. The US does not.

REPORT ON CHINA’S SHIPBUILDING INDUSTRY AND POLICIES AFFECTING IT

At the end of 2019, China’s orderbook ranked first, accounting for 25.7 million CGT and representing 33.3% of the world total (Table 1). Korea, EU and Japan followed China with 27.7%, 14.9%, and 14.3% of the orderbook respectively.

The US does not appear on the list.

As a Carrier Sailor i will say this, “Being able to build carriers is one thing learning how to use them for power projection is another and China still has a long way to go when it comes to it’s rival India, which is decades ahead in the game.” China’s J-15s are under powered and unsuited for Cats on a Carrier.

And just 10% of that $40B would have finished the border wall.

We spend $40B to defend Ukraine’s border but $0 on ours.

All the Chinese need now are jets that are aircraft carrier capable and battle fleet ships. Note, this is non-nuclear. Knock off the tanker and it’s toast.

Conventional power with these oil prices.

Buying from Russia at huge discount, maybe $70 bbl. So not a problem. China gets cheap oil, Russia makes ~$50 a bbl - win win.

But Americans get to pay exorbitant prices

Thanks JoeB!

Has there been an aircraft carrier sunk since World War II?

For all the talk about them being obsolete, they seem to project air power across the globe pretty effectively. I'm thinking at least our carriers have adequate protection against drones and missiles.
