After Banning Nancy Pelosi From Holy Communion, San Francisco Archbishop Gets Bad News From the Vatican

The Roman Catholic Church has a long-standing opposition to abortion, and in fact to birth control as well.

Abortion is strictly forbidden by Catholics, but some Democrats have chosen to be at odds with their faith.

Liberals such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Joe Biden who are pro-abortion and who call themselves Catholics are then caught in between their politics and their religion.

Leaders in the Catholic Church are taking a stance on this.

Recently the Archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Cordileone, banned Nancy Pelosi from receiving Holy Communion due to the Catholic Church’s position on abortion as murder, and Pelosi’s pro-abortion stance.

Another California bishop, Robert W. McElroy, who has been an outspoken opponent of banning pro-abortion politicians from receiving Holy Communion, has now been given the position of Cardinal by Pope Francis, Fox News reported.

In passing over Cordileone for McElroy, the Pope appears to be on the side of leniency in regard to pro-abortion individuals. Even as statements about not politicizing communion are made, the act of accepting something that Catholics have always deemed to be wrong, and a sin, is itself allowing politics to enter protocol and interpretations in the Catholic Church.

Conservative Brief reported that McElroy, one of 21 new cardinals Pope Francis announced Sunday, will be installed on Aug. 27 at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the diocese of San Diego announced.

The San Diego bishop warned against the idea of denying Communion to pro-choice politicians in 2021 when U.S. bishops were considering altering their policy on Communion, which Catholics also call the Eucharist.

“The proposal to exclude pro-choice Catholic political leaders from the Eucharist is the wrong step,” the new cardinal said in Jesuit magazine America. “It will bring tremendously destructive consequences—not because of what it says about abortion, but because of what it says about the Eucharist.”

He said that “[t]he Eucharist is being weaponized and deployed as a tool in political warfare. This must not happen.”

But Archbishop Cordileone disagrees, as he explained his decision in a letter to Speaker Pelosi:

“The Second Vatican Council, in its Decree on the Church in the Modem World, Gaudium et spes, reiterated the Church’s ancient and consistent teaching that ‘from the first moment of conception life must be guarded with the greatest care while abortion and infanticide are unspeakable crimes’. Christians have, indeed, always upheld the dignity of human life in every stage, especially the most vulnerable, beginning with life in the womb. His Holiness, Pope Francis, in keeping with his predecessors, has likewise been quite clear and emphatic in teaching on the dignity of human life in the womb,” he said in the letter.

“This fundamental moral truth has consequences for Catholics in how they live their lives, especially those entrusted with promoting and protecting the public good of society. Pope St. John Paul II was also quite consistent in upholding this constant teaching of the Church and frequently reminded us that “those who are directly involved in lawmaking bodies have a ‘grave and clear obligation to oppose’ any law that attacks human life. For them, as for every Catholic, it is impossible to promote such laws or to vote for them” (cf. Doctrinal Note on some questions regarding the participation of Catholics in political life [November 24, 2002], n. 4, §1). A Catholic legislator who supports procured abortion, after knowing the teaching of the Church, commits a manifestly grave sin which is a cause of most serious scandal to others. Therefore, universal Church law provides that such persons ‘are not to be admitted to Holy Communion’ (Code of Canon Law, can. 915),”

“In striving to follow this direction, I am grateful to you for the time you have given me in the past to speak about these matters. Unfortunately, I have not received such an accommodation to my many requests to speak with you again since you vowed to codify the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision in federal law following upon passage of Texas Senate Bill 8 last September. That is why I communicated my concerns to you via letter on April 7, 2022, and informed you there that, should you not publicly repudiate your advocacy for abortion ‘rights’ or else refrain from referring to your Catholic faith in public and receiving Holy Communion, I would have no choice but to make a declaration, in keeping with canon 915, that you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion,” he said.

“As you have not publicly repudiated your position on abortion, and continue to refer to your Catholic faith in justifying your position and to receive Holy Communion, that time has now come. Therefore, in light of my responsibility as the Archbishop of San Francisco to be “concerned for all the Christian faithful entrusted to [my] care” (Code of Canon Law, can. 383, §1), by means of this communication, I am hereby notifying you that you are not to present yourself for Holy Communion and, should you do so, you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion, until such time as you publicly repudiate your advocacy for the legitimacy of abortion and confess and receive absolution of this grave sin in the sacrament of Penance,”

Now that lines have been drawn within the Catholic Church about abortion, this is not the last we will hear of the differing opinions in Catholic leadership.

He said that “[t]he Eucharist is being weaponized and deployed as a tool in political warfare. This must not happen.”

This is tantamount to claiming that penicillin is being "weaponized" by a physician when he refuses to inject it into a patient with a known penicillin allergy!

Their Marxist ideology is their ‘religion’. Their Catholicism is a cheap costume.

The Eucharist has not been weaponized, the Cardinals’ hats have been weaponized. A Cardinal from San Diego?! Usually he gets a promotion to a more important or historic See. That suggests Francis’ time is short. It really wouldn’t have been hard to accept Cardinal O’Malley’s retirement in Boston, and Give McElroy the seat.

McElroy is a barely disguised pro-abortion liberal. If the politician in question were a white supremacist instead of an abortionist, McElroy would have no quarrel with banning them from communion.

The priest set his foot down. Would Jesus have broken bread after Nan promotes killing babies and has allowed such things? If the woman is not repentant and believes she is higher that God, then the communion is nothing more than a mere ritual Nancy desecrates every tie she takes the wafer and the wine, In remembrance of who Jesus is and what He’s done or remembrance of abortion?

” That suggests Francis’ time is short.”

Yep, Bergoglio clearly believes that time’s almost up for him. He’s desperately promoting every leftist, perv-friendly ally he can scrap up while simultaneously lashing out at his perceived conservative/traditionalist enemies. God help us.

Leftists weaponize everything. When they are on receiving end, oh no, can’t have that.

If one examines the Catholic Catechism, they would know its policy forbids communion for those who live in sin:

1355 In the communion, preceded by the Lord’s prayer and the breaking of the bread, the faithful receive “the bread of heaven” and “the cup of salvation,” the body and blood of Christ who offered himself “for the life of the world”:179

Because this bread and wine have been made Eucharist (”eucharisted,” according to an ancient expression), “we call this food Eucharist, and no one may take part in it unless he believes that what we teach is true, has received baptism for the forgiveness of sins and new birth, and lives in keeping with what Christ taught.”180

1384 The Lord addresses an invitation to us, urging us to receive him in the sacrament of the Eucharist: “Truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.”215

1385 To respond to this invitation we must prepare ourselves for so great and so holy a moment. St. Paul urges us to examine our conscience: “Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself.”216 Anyone conscious of a grave sin must receive the sacrament of Reconciliation before coming to communion.

1415 Anyone who desires to receive Christ in Eucharistic communion must be in the state of grace. Anyone aware of having sinned mortally must not receive communion without having received absolution in the sacrament of penance.

1395 By the same charity that it enkindles in us, the Eucharist preserves us from future mortal sins. The more we share the life of Christ and progress in his friendship, the more difficult it is to break away from him by mortal sin. The Eucharist is not ordered to the forgiveness of mortal sins - that is proper to the sacrament of Reconciliation. The Eucharist is properly the sacrament of those who are in full communion with the Church.

Mortal Sin:

1857 For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must together be met: “Mortal sin is sin whose object is grave matter and which is also committed with full knowledge and deliberate consent.”131

1858 Grave matter is specified by the Ten Commandments, corresponding to the answer of Jesus to the rich young man: “Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and your mother.”132 The gravity of sins is more or less great: murder is graver than theft. One must also take into account who is wronged: violence against parents is in itself graver than violence against a stranger.

1859 Mortal sin requires full knowledge and complete consent. It presupposes knowledge of the sinful character of the act, of its opposition to God’s law. It also implies a consent sufficiently deliberate to be a personal choice. Feigned ignorance and hardness of heart133 do not diminish, but rather increase, the voluntary character of a sin.

1860 Unintentional ignorance can diminish or even remove the imputability of a grave offense. But no one is deemed to be ignorant of the principles of the moral law, which are written in the conscience of every man. the promptings of feelings and passions can also diminish the voluntary and free character of the offense, as can external pressures or pathological disorders. Sin committed through malice, by deliberate choice of evil, is the gravest.

1861 Mortal sin is a radical possibility of human freedom, as is love itself. It results in the loss of charity and the privation of sanctifying grace, that is, of the state of grace. If it is not redeemed by repentance and God’s forgiveness, it causes exclusion from Christ’s kingdom and the eternal death of hell, for our freedom has the power to make choices for ever, with no turning back. However, although we can judge that an act is in itself a grave offense, we must entrust judgment of persons to the justice and mercy of God.

As a conservative catholic I do not recognize this heretical Pope as the rightful heir to Saint Peter. He is an apostate, and also a Jesuit. But I repeat myself. Jesuits would, if the Church actually adhered to its own teachings over the last 2000 years, be summarily excommunicated.
