Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, of South Carolina, and Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal, of Connecticut, are making progress as they hammer out details of revised "red flag" legislation that they both hope can win sufficient GOP support to overcome a filibuster in the Senate, according to four people familiar with the discussions who were not authorized to speak publicly.
Graham and Blumenthal later confirmed in statements to CBS News that their discussions are making progress.
In recent days, the two have been having frequent phone calls and have been working closely together to review a "red flag" bill they co-sponsored in 2019, making revisions that they believe can enable a similar, tweaked proposal to win wide support in the divided Senate, the four people told CBS News.

... and I'm not sure how you implement those metrics practically.
The only encouraging news out of this is that there appear to be strict criteria and a well-defined and rapid appeal process.
In practice, state Red Flag laws have been used sparingly, but at a Federal level I could see this rapidly spinning out of control. The potential for abuse is too high.
Indeed. The potential for swatting is enormous.
Any red flag law needs to have a provision that any racial or sex disparities may be warranted.

oh, brother.....Blumenthal is an absolute snake and if Graham actually believes that some sort of “progress” is being made (progress being steps toward taking away ALL of our guns, not just AR-15s...), then he is a bigger fool than we thought he was....
They’re not called Red Flag Laws by accident.
Every conservative person in America already has a red flag on their record just waiting to be activated.
If someone is a danger to themselves or others, they need to be locked up, period.
Yes, I'd like more detail on his animal abuse. I believe he should have been prosecuted for that.
The Rinos are raising their ugly heads again.
It’s my understanding that the Federal Government doesn’t have the authority of implement a “national” Red Flag law, all the bills be considered would do is offer grants if states wanted to enact their own. I’m guessing most Pro-Gun red states will politely decline.
Both the Buffalo and the Uvalda shooters had animal abuse actions.
If they were more closely prosecuted, and made into a felony, these shootings could have been prevented.
The FedGuv doesn't have the authority NOW. Legislation could change that.
New York statutes comprise the state’s anti-cruelty provisions. “Animal” includes every living creature except a human being. A person who overdrives, overloads, tortures or cruelly beats or unjustifiably injures, maims, mutilates or kills any animal, or deprives any animal of necessary sustenance, food or drink, is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment for not more than one year, or by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars, or by both.
Make it a felony for sadistic torture scenarios and we’d have something.

I would consider a Red Flag Law as long as it included punishment for anyone making false charges, there was rigorous due process involved and an easy and no cost appeals process.
