The U.S. House Democrat in charge of keeping the chamber blue in November’s midterm elections said Tuesday that Republicans running in suburban swing districts are trying to “hide” their views on abortion and gun legislation from voters.
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney said during a call with regional reporters that GOP candidates in centrist districts have begun downplaying the impact of a potential Supreme Court ruling that would end five decades of nationwide abortion protections.
They’re also trying to avoid discussing whether Congress should pass new gun laws following two mass shootings, said Maloney, of New York.
“That (abortion) issue, overwhelmingly in suburban swing districts, is a very bad issue for the Republicans, as it should be. Because it’s a disaster for our country to take away 50 years of guaranteed reproductive freedom,” Maloney said. “But you will see them try to hide those positions from suburban swing voters, who really have a problem with that.”
The U.S. Supreme Court is set to issue a ruling within the next month on whether a Mississippi law banning most abortions after 15 weeks violates the Constitution.
The Republican-nominated justices, however, are expected to possibly overturn nationwide abortion protections the Supreme Court has twice ruled are a fundamental right, according to a leaked majority draft opinion published by Politico.

REAL conservatives have NO problem taking on such issues. Babies shouldn't be killed and our rights "shall not be infringed."
Thank God there aren't that many "moderates" left, and there will be fewer after November.
Let the dems keep telling them selves that
Sean Patrick Maloney is a premium-grade @$$. Been aware of him for several years now.
What the Dems want is guilt Repubs into thinking that they must entertain Dem talking points continuously, responding to each of their inflamed questions asked a hundred different ways.
Abortion is not a question to be entertained now, not until the Supreme Court speaks. Then, yes, it must be talked about. As for guns, the Republican response should be: “OK, let’s talk about crime and policing.”
I believe most moderate GOP validates are actually dems running as a republican to get elected.
No question there has been a concerted effort to infiltrate the GOP from the left as stealth candidates.
Scarbarough is a classic example of that, thankfully folks in Florida were onto him.
Anything but the cost of gas, housing, everything; anything but out of control crime and deadly drugs; anything but international failures and illegal aliens; etc.
And what do RATS fail to chat about? Oh, I dunno - gas prices, inflation, food shortages, Hunter, the Russia hoax, fraudulent elections, internet censorship, FIB atrocities...
Enjoy your ass kicking you marxist bastard.
You assume that they support pro-life and pro-2nd Amendment positions but are just scared to talk about them. I see no reason to beleive that anymore. They are embarassed to pulicly support those issue exactly because they don't believe in them at all and they figure they'll win anyway so why even discuss them.
Don't put your faith in the GOP for conservative legislation, they will disappoint you just about every time.
Maybe they should talk with GOP voters.
Then five min later they can resign when they find out how angry the base is at them.
