The Second Amendment is not about hunting. We have a God-given right to be armed because leaders get drunk on power, become tyrants and we the people, have the right to stop them by armed force, if necessary, and assert our power over them and demand our independence.
This is exactly why the American Revolution was fought.
Nobody asked her opinion.

I believe the Founders had their minds on new tyrants from abroad like the British and French of the future, and local bullies who could challenge the citizens. They wanted all citizens to be part-time militia members to avoid having to set up a standing army, which most opposed.

The author says the existing laws during slavery included the expectation of militias enter slave quarters to confiscate any weapons, all of which were banned for slaves.
