The coronavirus will likely evade Paxlovid eventually. What that will mean for the pandemic is unclear

When the patient came back 10 days later, coughing repeatedly and complaining of headache, Davey Smith feared the worst.

Smith had prescribed the patient Pfizer’s new antiviral pill, Paxlovid, on the previous visit, after a COVID-19 test came back positive. A resurgence of symptoms probably meant one thing, especially after Smith tested the patient and got another positive.

“I was pretty sure it was resistance,” said Smith, an infectious disease physician at the University of California, San Diego. “I’m a virologist, I combat resistance all the time.”

Current US Covid death count is about 300 per day. Flat. That is slightly above last summer’s minimum.

It’s hard to get a good measurement because states are now reporting differently than last year. You have to go back a couple of weeks on the charts to see accuracy, but that accuracy only refers to 2 weeks ago. The charts are meaningful a couple of weeks back. Not today. Today’s data only becomes legit two weeks from now after delayed counts accumulate.

Globally the counts are also in decline with a few clear exceptions. Australia most obviously is seeing serious death counts approximating 5 months ago — which was summer for them and winterish now. New Zealand death counts look very much the same proportionally.

Probably seasonal, but South America is not getting hit like Australia and NZ are.

As for restrictions and measures to take, only 2 work.

1) Don’t be over 65 yrs old.

2) If you’re over 65, don’t be around people. You can ignore that if you want to swagger how tough you are, provided the people you’re around are under 65. If they are over 65 and don’t have a choice about separation, then it’s on you putting them at risk.

If you seriously believe that a piece of cloth will “protect” you; you are entitled to your delusions but I truly pity you.

had covid- probably omicron- they couldn’t tell me what version i had- they put me on paxlovid- was sick about 8 days- got better for aroudn 3 and then got sick again for another 4 days- rebound covid is my guess- as symptoms were very similar- and now we learn that taking paxlovid causes rebound covid-

I also took ivermectin the whole time, and green tea extract and zinc- took 3 times the amount of ivermectin used for prevention- didn’t seem to do much- but who knows, maybe it kept me out of hospital as i do have comorbidities- family members all had similar experience with rebound covid as well after taking paxolovid- one member they wanted to send to hospital and give remdisiver- but after discussing it the member decided not to go to hospital thankfully-

I took Zinc with Quercetin, D3, Ivermectin and got the antibody injections, and was well after two days. My 84-year-old mother with severe COPD took the same and only ended up with a modest, 1-day headache.

A physician’s assistant told me she has seen people getting rebound Covid after taking Paxlovid, so I opted for monoclonal antibodies instead.

Have it ready, and as soon as you come down with a fever, start taking it. That’s what my plan was, and that’s what I did. Had my entire family ready as well. People have to learn to take steps to protect themselves. You can’t rely of dishonest government and medical structure to save you.

Good choice e. All three of us got rebound. Thry didn’t even offer us monoclonals. As far as severity for ehat I assume was omicron, I have had much worse flues before, but it was pretty miserable. Had fever for a few days which made it miserable. Then the coughing, but nothing too bad as far as coughing. I’ve had to go to hospital for flues where I had a hard time breathing, but I never had that with the covid. It felt like it was gonna get bad in the lungs (i have 3 lung issues), but it never did thankfully

I was lucky to get the antibodies. The Biden Administration seems to be making it hard to get. So typical.

I took Hcq plus zinc just in case, and I’m glad I did. I got over the hump in a couple of days. But I did get scolded by the urgent care doctor for taking prescription medication on my own.

HCQ Also good choice. My Dr of 30 yrs wouldn’t even prescribe HCQ (NJ). So I decided to order my ivermectin from out if state.

Isn’t that ridiculous? I had to get my HCQ from an online doctor.

It’s not only ridiculous, but bordering on criminal and a violation of the Hippocratic Oath that Doctors pledged. If the virus is as deadly as they tell us, it’s literally then a matter of life and death by their very own standards. Yet, they chose to play deadly games with our life and health. Never thought I would ever see this take place in this country, and I am a refugee (naturalized citizen).

I totally agree. Except for some courageous doctors, the medical profession in general didn’t want to hear about any treatments that seemed to help other than to wait for the vaccines, and then to mandate the vaccines. Frankly, I think a lot of people died unnecessarily because they couldn’t get some kind of useful early treatment.

My folks were refugees, too, by the way. They already passed, but they would have been horrified by all that is going on.
