PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Senators in New England are getting behind a push to provide more federal resources to administer local and state elections.
Sen. Angus King, Maine’s independent senator, said the Sustaining Our Democracy Act would provide $20 billion in federal money over the next 10 years to help states with election necessities, such as training poll workers and upgrading voting equipment and registration systems.
King said the proposal is a reflection of the fact that elections take “significant investments of time, money, and personnel.” He said that’s “why the federal government must ensure that state and local governments have the tools they need to administer safe, effective elections.”
State and local governments that want to receive the money would need to submit plans for how the funds would be used. King said the proposal makes clear that it would stop states from using the money in ways that make it harder for eligible voters to cast their votes.
Democratic Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, chairwoman of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee with oversight over federal elections, and Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren led nine of their colleagues in introducing the Sustaining Our Democracy Act.
The co-sponsors of the proposal are all Democrats except for King and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. King and Sanders are independent senators who caucus with the Democrats.

This money will be used to fund Democrat campaigns. This is ok because when Democrats lose elections, it is a threat to our Democracy.
New England becomes one state and I’d give them all they want. Throw in NY east of the Hudson and you can double it.
“This money will be used to fund Democrat campaigns. “
BINGO. Just like that 40 billion and beliions before to Ukraine that are unaccounted for.
This is what happens when you think that Democracy means “rule by Democrats”.
Ah, the old Golden Rule: he who has the gold makes the rules.
Ask for zuck bucks like late time.
That’s more than some entire countries.
Another opportunity for Democrats to steal from us.
Heck, I want money for federal elections too!
I'll put voting machines in my garage.
I can certainly do a better job of it than Dominion can.
Throwing money at a problem is what Democrats do.
What they will not do, is take a look at the costs and belefits of the different ways of voting, starting with the basic voting only on one day, Election Day, with paper ballots.
Talley all of the costs associated with that traditional voting scheme.
Determine and talley all of the costs associated with each of the various alternate voting schemes.
Other voting schemes, like mail in voting, drop boxes, vote harvesting after Election Day, early voting at the polls, voting machines, etc. Include the staff and equipment costs to actually carry out all of the provisions that ensure voter integrity, like custody paperwork, timely video surveillance, and more.
Chances are, the traditional one-day voting will be the least expensive and least risky option. Don'y you agree?
Otherwise add a few billion to pay for the risky and more costly voting mechanism, not to mention typical corruption and time delays that characterize today's voting methods.
Freedom isn’t free. Cough it up Portland.
Ha! If you really want botched local elections, get the federal government involved.
Makes you wonder how we ever had an election.
Everything given to the government gets screwed up.
Independants my ass. Just farther left.
More money == More control...
Sent my $$$ to Rubio ..
Let the Guard run the elections. Too easy. And cheaper.
