Murphy: Florida gun law passed after Parkland shooting a ‘signal of what’s possible’

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said Sunday that a gun law passed by the Florida legislature following the Parkland school shooting was a “signal of what’s possible” when it comes to legislation that could be passed on the federal level.

During an appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” moderator Jonathan Karl ran down the intentions of the bill, which included raising the minimum age in which a person can obtain a firearm to 21 and banned bump stocks, noting that it was passed by a GOP-led legislature and signed by a Republican governor.

Karl asked Murphy if Florida’s state gun law could be a model for the Senate to follow.

I'm not familiar with the Florida law. I'm sure it's retarded because Murphy likes it.

The major things are raising the age to 21 for purchasing a long gun and a number of red flag law changes, dealing with mental health issues.

Even though live in Florida, I’ve noticed nothing has changed, all during the pandemic guns have been flying off the shelf in Florida.

The other major thing was funding for SRO officers and more school security measures.

It’s appropriate that Connecticut’s state nickname is the Nutmeg State.

A federal appeals court in California ruled that the state’s ban on the sale of semiautomatic firearms to Americans under 21 is unconstitutional. I guess that pesky detail doesn’t matter.

The Florida law has an exemption for military and LEO persons under the age of 21. They can still purchase firearms.

Dear Chris and democrats in general.

NOBODY cares about gun control. All your dog and ponies won’t help you and your party.

Gas

Border

CRT in schools and teaching kids porn in Kindergarten

Inflation

Recession.

Shortages

Nothing will help your party escape the gravity of this unprecedented disaster.

And I hate to say this but I will. As horrid as the shootings in Ulvade were, most Americans got in their cars to drive on Memorial Day weekend and otherwise do what they always do. They will be returning to find this unaffordable. Even worse, many cancelled plans because it is. They will be pissed and not care about Uvalde.

Callous and self-centered? Oh yah, but those are the kind of people the dem run school systems are creating. Reap what yah sow Chris.

Government always takes power away from the people, and never gives it back.

Right. Remember the empty displays at the gun stores?

The FL law is very tight on when and how guns can be taken away.

What has raising the age limit to 21 for legal firearms acquisitions done in terms of reducing the criminal or tragic (suicides or accidents or even mass public shootings) misuse of firearms? This should be one of the important standards by which this law should be judged.

Just make the age for gun purchases the same as that for voting.

Not enough. Voting age needs to be raised to 25 with same as guns. The human brain doesn’t mature until that age. It will also weed out the mentality unstable.

...... Like a Job or Loan Application .... For minors .... Require Character Refferences as well as the signature of a parent or legal guardian for purchasers or transfer to persons 19 years of age and under. We really need to realize that For the most part the mental maturity of the 19 year olds of today are pretty much equal to the mental maturity of 12 or 13 year olds of previous generations decades ago.

With respect to Florida’s so-called “Red Flag Law,” the following article is of interest:

“Florida’s red flag law used nearly 9,000 times to date, 254 times in Duval” (https://www.actionnewsjax.com/news/local/floridas-red-flag-law-used-nearly-9000-times-date-254-times-duval/6Z74OOSF25CLFEMUIERDRCSXLU/)

FRankly, I am surprised that this patently unconstitutional law has not been challenged in court and overturned!

“. . . shall not be inFRinged” indeed!

Not to those who use such tragedies ONLY to further their own agenda — which is to disarm YOU, while keeping their own armed guards.
No “gun control” person gives a flip about safety of anyone but themselves. It’s like a pedo saying that it is OK to arrange an over-the-weekend camping trip with a bunch of kids: “I can control myself.”
