Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday that while Ukraine was not eager to have a dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin, his country has to face the reality that communication will likely be needed to end the war.
"There are things to discuss with the Russian leader. I'm not telling you that to me our people are eager to talk to him, but we have to face the realities of what we are living through," he said in an address.
"What do we want from this meeting … We want our lives back ... We want to reclaim the life of a sovereign country within its own territory," he said.
Zelenskyy noted that Russia did not seem to be ready for peace talks.

What typically happens is both sides will try to gain an advantage so they can negotiate from a position of strength. All we see is Ukrainian propaganda which almost certainly is overstating their gains and strengths. They appear to be giving ground in the Donbas, but it’s better to do that than to be surrounded.
When the Finnish were fighting the Soviets, they were finally on their last legs and on the verge of collapse. But instead of collapsing the line to something more manageable they continued to hold places that weren’t truly necessary, thus giving the false impression that they were stronger than they were. It worked and they reached what was probably the best deal anyone ever got from Stalin. They got Finlandized but they didn’t have a puppet government. That was a HUGE concession. Ukraine will probably try something similar.

Zelensky’s prerequisite that Russia first relinquish all occupied territory means he obviously isn’t serious. That’s a non starter.
Zelensky is such a bonehead......to think he’s going to need a diplomatic solution is beyond the experation date. HE’s never going to get what he wants, rather pretends what he wants for Ukraine.
Three months too late, but surrender is surrender.
Seems like Ukraine is communicating just fine with Mr. Putin in the form of high explosive shells and guided antitank missiles. A language that old Vlad is getting a crash course in.
I think about 40 Billion is a good start.

This was in the initial stages of being settled through negotiations some eight weeks ago. The criminals in the White House and their neocon GOP fellow travelers derailed the talks and are responsible for lengthening and trying to widen the conflict.
Didn’t Ukraine execute one of its own negotiators on the steps of the courthouse?

The whole thing was obvious from the beginning... Russia would go in and destroy everything Zelensky would know out some troops and military equipment. In the end, Ukraine would be a shell of itself and Putin would stop bombing, and may take a small portion of the country, that wanted to be part of Russia. Really, no other outcome was possible with this war.

Zelensky is a dead man walking. The radicals will wack him if he even tries to negotiate any settlement.

Correct, even with billions of US aid. Western MSM says the evil little beggar is winning, one check with ALL non western MSM shows Ukraine is getting it’s ass kicked. It’s losing territory, it has all of its factories destroyed, it’s Territorial Guard units are surrendering, it’s economy is destroyed, they can not rotate their troops in/ out, they are begging for arms, ammo, weapons, one third is getting captured/ destroyed by Vlad, supply lines cut,seaports captured/ blockaged….
Reality is Vlad has won, his primary objective of the Donbass gaining its Independence from Ukraine is days / weeks away. The loss of the ethnic Russian provinces ( like the huge loss of Marioupol ) should finally convince the little beggar Zelensky negotiations are wise and prudent.Even Italy announced they need to cede the Donbass per the signed ( failed) Minsk agreement of 2014.
Zelensky has much blood on his hands, and no one likes a sore loser.
