Basically the Russians are stealing Ukraine’s energy resources and developing a monopoly on one of the world’s most important industrial gas.
Hydrocarbon resources in Ukraine are concentrated in three regions: the Carpathian region in the west; the Dnieper-Donetsk region in the east; and the Black Sea-Sea of Azov region in the south. The Dnieper-Donetsk region accounts for 80% of proven reserves and approximately 90% of gas production, and the Carpathian region has 13% of proven reserves and 6% of production. The remaining 6% of proven reserves are in the southern region, where production is conducted both onshore and offshore on the shallow shelves of the Black and Azov seas. The aggregate production in this region is 5% of Ukraine’s total oil and gas production.
Industrial NEON is a rare gas that is essential for the laser etching of microchips. The primary producer of this gas is Ukraine (facilities in Mariupol and Odesa), the two other significant producers are Russia and China. Industrial grade NEON is very difficult to refine and utilizes waste product from steel manufacturing. It is required for laser etching microchips and at this time there is no suitable substitute. Outside of Russia and China, the largest microchip producers in the world are down to around a 30 day supply of this gas and once fully expended, microchip production will cease. Recycling NEON is an option but it does not fully replace the gas used in the laser process. If Russia and China fully control the world’s supply of Industrial NEON it will have dramatic and dangerous ramifications for National Security and overall economies in the United States and other western countries.

Moreover, the introduction of large caliber modern US and NATO howitzers is strengthening Ukraine's conventional artillery, while the provision of highly accurate, long range US made MLRS and HIMARS rocket artillery seems imminent upon the completion of training.
