Guns are the leading cause of death among children, new CDC statistics show. But while the horrific massacre in a Texas elementary school rightly outrages the nation, such mass shootings are not the primary reason for that grim statistic.
Most young people killed by guns are shot in gang violence or other crime — which has only gotten worse since the George Floyd race riots and their long anarchic aftermath.

Heather's stats with regard to the over-representation of black youth in the firearms related crime stats are accurate, but to quote the claim in the CDC "study" as fact is disappointing for someone as meticulous as Heather McDonald.
These "studies" have been using the same data manipulation for at least 30 years now by redefining the term "child" to include 18 and 19 year old "children". They even went so far back in the 90's to exclude children under the age of 1 because SIDS eclipsed firearm-related deaths for children.
According to that methodology, a 19-year-old mother would be considered a "child", but her 6-month-old baby would not be considered a child.
Unfortunately; people (mostly in the media) will simply regurgitate this claim as unassailable "fact" without looking at the data.

I have enormous respect for Heather MacDonald.
Of course anyone paying attention knows these stats. But like the article says, there is no power or money to be gained from black on black murder and crime so it is ignored or blamed on the white boogey man. Meanwhile more and more blacks and everone else dies.
