It’s Long Past Time For Congress To Break Up The FBI
The Federalists ^ | may 23,2022 | BY: JOE POPULARIS

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s long history of abusing its power is once again prominent amid the continued expose by Special Counsel John Durham. His prosecution is demonstrating the FBI’s use of its power to deploy federal intelligence assets against political opponents of Democrats.

The FBI routinely intervenes in politics, such as when the FBI assisted the Hillary Clinton campaign in painting former President Donald Trump as a Russian intelligence asset, as Durham’s investigation is emphasizing with more evidence. By getting a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrant on Carter Page, the FBI also likely spied on Trump and his inner circle via something called the two-hop rule.

Trevor Aaronson analyzed thousands of FBI cases and found that, “Of these defendants caught up in FBI terrorism sting operations, an FBI informant was the person who led one of every three terrorist plots, and the FBI also provided all of the necessary weapons, money, and transportation.”

“The FBI was rotten from it’s inception”

I disagree. But once the notorious queer J. Edgar Hoover took over the headquarters quickly morphed from a law enforcement agency into a secret police agency.

The FBI field offices still do outstanding work in prosecuting child traffickers, Chinese slave traders, drug cartels, financial crimes against the elderly, handling civil rights violations by local law enforcement, cybercrimes, and etc.

I guess what I’d like to see is reform to depoliticize the FBI and to emphasize the leadership of the field offices over the politically charged headquarters. Or do away with the HQ altogether.

The FBI is currently spewing its propaganda on TV with a plethora of FBI-based programs.

They even have one called FBI: International.

Since when was the FBI supposed to act internationally?

Unless they were decentralized to work directly for the US Attorney offices. Removing a HQ? Not sure how that would play out. Perhaps it could work in tandem wherein the HQ had no power over the individual field offices beyond providing guidance, budget support and centralized activities like fingerprint repository and a lab (albeit the bad history there too). Coordination amongst the various field offices on national investigations plus how to handle the counterintelligence mission still would be a problem.

Of interest I worked for an investigative organization patterned on the FBI with no HQ direction over the individual regional offices. Ironically the first director was Hoover’s nephew. It is now an IG office with direct authority to HQ. Game never changes.
