In my time, I never heard anyone call it a "contract." It's a commitment.

We had a small Morse code radio station working international shipping and international fishing fleets. They all used Morse code and we also had a LORAN A station. There was a LORAN C staion on Attu.
I was a stewburner at that point in life. I was also a certified electrician, which after my time in, fleshed out that trade into a career as an EE.
