Australian voters deliver strong message on climate, ending conservative government's 9-year rule

Australian voters have delivered a sharp rebuke to the center-right government, ending nine years of conservative rule, in favor of the center-left opposition that promised stronger action on climate change.

Australian Labor Party leader Anthony Albanese appeared certain to form a minority government, though it was unclear as counting continued if the party would have enough seats for a majority, according to projections from three news networks.

Parties need a majority of 76 seats to form a majority government. Labor is currently sitting on around 70, according to the Australian Electoral Commission. Early counting showed a strong swing towards Greens candidates and Independents who demanded emissions cuts far above the commitments made by Morrison's coalition.

Amanda McKenzie, CEO of the research group the Climate Council, declared climate action the winner of the vote. "Millions of Australians have put climate first. Now, it's time for a radical reset on how this great nation of ours acts upon the climate challenge," she said in a statement.

If true, let me guess. No more fossil fuels in Down Under? Wind and solar power? EVs. Carbon offsets. So the standard of living will decline for the typical Australian. Good luck.

This is strange - just saw an article on a left-leaning source that was chastizing Australian voters for missing the boat on dealing with climate change... so what am I missing?

The population of Australia is 25 million.

The population of China is 1.44 billion.

If every Australian ate nothing but bugs and travel was limited to walking they would be a rounding error on reducing carbon emissions caused by China plus Australia.

Alas true. Some of the safest and most wealthy Liberal seats have fallen or been retained with an increased vote percentage for climate change chardonnay socialists. Seats like Kooyong in Melbourne and Wentworth in Sydney.Mostly women. Labor will woo them for support of a radical anti fossil fuel crusade. Expect more ‘boat people’ to show up. A lot of sucking up to China. Back to the future of the last Labor government

Morrison and the other Conservatives did it to themselves, they ran and governed like a Bush Republican, when there is no clear difference between parties, in the minds of voters what difference does it make, so they voted for the party out of power, because the one in power failed miserably.

Without Trump and the MAGA movement, the USA would end up being just like Australia.

Burning coal seams in China (some natural, most due to their mining incompetence) put out more “greenhouse gases” each year than the entire output of USA cars and trucks.

Coal seam fires can burn for hundreds of years.

Expect more ‘boat people’ to show up.

Honestly, that would be an improvement. At least they are not woke. They tend to be motivated to work (usually). A lot of them start their own businesses. Of course, borders should be controlled but that's another topic for discussion.

Wonder, how many elite Aussies are heading to the USA to buy homes, small farms and vineyards?

Enough, that there is a current how to book and internet links to help Aussies become former Aussies and become Yanks!

It’s going to be a fun multicultural experience when the Chinese military are patrolling their streets and all of SE Asia has immigrated there.

So welcoming.

From the interwebs:

The oldest known coal seam fire on earth, another “Burning Mountain” located in New South Wales, Australia has been active for over 6,000 years and is particularly visible. Over the past seven years, the fire has been picked up dozens of times, showing its general movement south across the landscape.

Maybe sometime I’ll try to compare this fire’s CO2 output to Austraila’s manmade output. And both are a fraction of the REAL chemical that accounts for 97% of the earth’s greenhouse gases - natural water vapor.
