Forget Voter ID, how about a federal license to vote? That’s what this is like.
Why would anyone be stupid enough to do that?
If by some miracle this bill were to become law, it will be slapped down by the USSC. The slap-down however, will take years. In the meantime the FedGov will have assessed millions in fees which will never be refunded and collected millions of names, folks that may one day be visited by armed FedGov employees demanding the weapon(s). Unfortunately not all of these citizens will have reported the loss of their weapon(s) during a boating accident.

The act required state and local law enforcement officials to conduct background checks on people attempting to purchase handguns. Since the act "forced participation of the State's executive in the actual administration of a federal program", it was unconstitutional.
