President Joe Biden plans to meet with the head of South Korean automaker Hyundai on Sunday to praise its decision to invest billions to build a new factory in Georgia, during a trip to Asia where he will champion direct foreign investment in the U.S.
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Biden would thank the CEO for Hyundai's planned investment in Georgia – in a move that coincides with his own push to keep job creation going while showing an effort to tackle inflation.
The timing could also play to the benefit of Georgia's Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, who is facing a primary election next week against Trump-backed rival former Sen. David Perdue.
It comes a year after the state of Georgia and local government partners spent $61 million to buy a sprawling tract of land for future industrial development.
