Thanks, Ezekiel...((HUGS))
Sort of sad to say this, but the first song that came to mind for the thread is “Both Sides Now”, Joni Mitchell.
I don’t think it really describes my life; more just how things feel today. Trying to figure out the end game for all of the crises being inflicted upon us for the past 15 months......
Thanks, BlueLancer...((HUGS))
The verses are about being torn with worldly messages telling us to not trust Jesus. The chorus is about clarity of Who Jesus is to us (to me) on a personal level (my Rock, my Fortress, my Shield, my Salvation, etc.). It's a clarity and security you can't find anywhere else, especially in the world's lies.
I’m not like everybody ele -chocolate watch band cover of kinks song!!
Tangled up in Blue - Bob Dylan
The song hits home for me based on this lyric:
I had a job in the great north woods
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the axe just fell
My future wife and I took on some work at a restaurant. It was a run by an alcoholic, who was a patient of her mom.
We ran the small omelets place (No Name Cafe in Belmont Shore,CA). She was the waitress and I ran the kitchen while he was in and out of rehab.
After about two years of this, he thought he was back on the straight and narrow. But he and I got into it one day:
"Will you show me a little RESPECT!!
He shouted at me as I went upstairs to square away a dispute between waitresses (that's what we called them then).
I stopped: 'Sandy, I'll show you as little respect as possible.
And one day the ax just fell.
Not one of my finer moments. LOL
My beloved and precious wife Joy passed away recently and I am still forcing myself through the grief and loss of trying to find a meaning to life with the knowledge she will never be back on Earth.
Although I don’t share his lifestyle choice or politics I think this song by Elton John (and Bernie Taupin) sums up a lot and seems genuine.
Sad Songs Mean So Much
Guess there are times when we all need to share a little pain
And ironing out the rough spots
Is the hardest part when memories remain
And it’s times like these when we all need to hear the radio
‘Cause from the lips of some old singer
We can share the troubles we already know
Turn ‘em on, turn ‘em on
Turn on those sad songs
When all hope is gone
Why don’t you tune in and turn them on
They reach into your room, oh oh oh
Just feel their gentle touch (gentle touch)
When all hope is gone
Sad songs say so much
If someone else is suffering enough oh to write it down
When every single word makes sense
Then it’s easier to have those songs around
The kick inside is in the line that finally gets to you
And it feels so good to hurt so bad
And suffer just enough to sing the blues....
When every little bit of hope is gone
Sad songs say so much
When ever little bit of hope is gone
Sad songs say so much
Remember When, Alan jackson
So sorry for your loss, frank. May she Rest In Peace.
Not trying to deflect, but this is the original version of the Righteous Bros. cover:
Unchained melody -- Todd Duncan
What amazes me, is that the RB's turned that version into what they did.
A year or so ago, I was messing around on the computer with that song and found some "reaction" videos: People hearing that song for the first time. They are interesting, you should take a look at one or two. Bobby Hatfield was amazing and is appreciated by a whole new generation.
Thank you very much, fidelis.
Oh no!!! So not fair...at least you were smart enough to keep some distance between you and the guy ahead. I do that to this day.
The words of the song are what is important to you, not the proclivities' of the writer.
