For the 2020 census, all states were not counted equally well for population numbers used to allocate political representation and federal funding over the next decade, according to a U.S. Census Bureau report released Thursday.
A follow-up survey the bureau conducted to measure the national tally's accuracy found significant net undercount rates in six states: Arkansas (5.04%), Florida (3.48%), Illinois (1.97%), Mississippi (4.11%), Tennessee (4.78%) and Texas (1.92%).
It also uncovered significant net overcount rates in eight states — Delaware (5.45%), Hawaii (6.79%), Massachusetts (2.24%), Minnesota (3.84%), New York (3.44%), Ohio (1.49%), Rhode Island (5.05%) and Utah (2.59%).
For the other 36 states, as well as Washington, D.C., the bureau did not find statistically significant net over- or undercount rates.
These revelations come after the population totals from a census beset by the coronavirus pandemic and years of interference from former President Donald Trump's administration have already been used to divvy up seats in the House of Representatives, as well as votes in the Electoral College, for the next decade.
"No census is perfect," Census Bureau Director Robert Santos warned during a public webinar about the latest results from Post-Enumeration Survey. "And the PES allows us to become more informed about the 2020 census by estimating what portion of the population was correctly counted, where we missed people and where some people were counted that shouldn't have been."
During a press briefing on Wednesday, bureau officials emphasized the follow-up survey's estimates, which were delayed largely because of the pandemic, will not change each state's share of representation in the House or the Electoral College.

More vote-rigging, wonder if someone can do the math and calculate if this would change electoral votes for these states?
Trump. Every. Single. Time.
Blaming Trump. Trump stood up for us, wouldn’t let that crap go without kicking up dust.
Adios amigo.
Census undercount in red states and overcount in blue states? I think the bureaucracy may have been at work.
remember nothing ever goes wrong in elections or the census or anything else unless the Democrat left says so
I noticed that too. Also, the same NPR that said the election in 2020 was wrong in 0 states but says the census is wrong in 14 states.
But no one who can fix it gives a crap...
I'm pretty sure that the Census Bureaucrats injected old data into the enumerators' data stream to drag calculation of the the final numbers out of Trump's administration.
I was seeing data from 2010 and before that I knew had already been cleaned up years ago.
I can tell you from experience if you live in a blue city and you don’t return your census form promptly, you will have minimum wage workers knocking on your door every day and night trying to get a hold of you to get the census form.
Is the Census Bureau as relentless in getting people to return the form in more rural, Republican areas? Somehow, I doubt it.

They counted.
Then they counted again.
Their own numbers do not agree.
Perhaps they should count a third time?
I think the more significant thing was that Butt-Head reversed the Trump EO, upheld by SCOTUS, that discounted illegal aliens for purposes of apportionment. A number of red states stood to gain seats from that change alone.
Forget it, Jake. It’s NPR.
I thought this was a thread about the 2020 election.
Double down and prepare to sacrifice, it’s NPR, Paul.
Because they didn't fit some model you had in mind?
Of course the blue states “over counted” The gist of their count campaigns revolved around getting more milk from the federal teat.
And I am willing to bet there was NO undercount in the red states: they were more diligent in excluding non citizens. As they should have been.
“Most secure election ever!” remember that....
Mike Lindell just said that Alabama was the most corrupt state in the union, and that Trump was shorted 200,000 votes in the 2020 election. Kay Ivey wanted his picture.
