“Progressive liberals, neo-Marxists dazed by the woke dream, people financed by George Soros and promoters of open societies ... want to annihilate the Western way of life that you and us love so much,” said Orban in his speech.”

“in a speech loaded with anti-democratic and anti-Semitic dog whistles”

Read the article twice. Saw no anti-Semitic whistles of ANY kind. Only reference to democratic is the fact he was democratically elected.

The propaganda is that Western Europe is better off when it isn’t as it is chaotic, filled to the brim with Muslims, effiminate Europeans, liberalism, filth, etc, whereas Hungary is prospering economically, land values, etc are all stable, and support for traditionalvalues is strong. In other areas, give it time.

Hungary is somewhat corrupt; the major amount of it is to avoid paying taxes which are astronomical for the average Hungarian.

For instance at the supermarket there are the same card readers at the cash register as we have here, but they are hardly ever used. The problem is Hungary taxes every card transaction so you pay cash.

Same for your wages. If you are a chef, for instance, you get paid more than a waiter because there is a government standard for the wages of a chef (or any other occupation). So you are hired as a waiter, work as a chef and get paid as a chef. You pay taxes as if you were a waiter.

To avoid savings getting taxed away you buy collector watches, gold, artwork, other things that can’t be traced or taxed.

You do this all to avoid taxes. If you paid the entirety of taxes you’re supposed to there would be nothing left to live on.

My daughter has Hungarian citizenship so I’ve been there a lot. That’s how I know.

Prime Minister Orban is of course 100% correct as usual.

Somehow not being willing to sell out your country, throw open your borders to 3rd world invaders and hand over your foreign policy to Brussels now makes you “far right” according to far left Reuters.

in a speech loaded with anti-democratic and anti-Semitic dog whistles.

That sentence, of itself, is an anti-Western civ dog whistle. Once again, the left are awesome at projecting.

Hungary has some corruption yes, but its relatively low level and I’d say its less than what it had before and generally less than that in most of Eastern Europe. I mean, its not like the president’s son is going around selling out the country for tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars or like the national law enforcement agency refuses to investigate this and instead acts as a praetorian guard for the president. Its not corruption like that.

Hungary does have a declining population but thanks to the pro natalist policies of the current government, its birthrate has ticked upwards. It may take more time and more policies that make child rearing more affordable, but Hungary is at least on the right path toward getting their birthrate back up to replacement level.

The pro natalist policies have not failed. They have not resulted in a sudden dramatic upswing in births but they have raised the birthrate noticeably. Its a positive step. More needs to be done, but I definitely would not call such policies a failure.

You beat me to it. They pepper this bullshit in all their “news” articles they don’t even have enough shame or professionalism to keep it to an editorial.

Its low level stuff, but yes he has steered public money toward friends and associates.

Par for the course in the US too, but its not supposed to work that way.

And anyone who is not a communist is “ far right”.
