A trio of senators plan to introduce legislation on Thursday that will require residents to acquire a Department of Justice (DOJ) license before purchasing or obtaining a legal firearm.
The bill would also raise the legal age for obtaining a firearm to 21 years old.
The bill was introduced by Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.).
It has virtually no chance of becoming law given GOP opposition, but gives a sense of the breadth of restrictions on gun access that some lawmakers would favor imposing in the wake of years of mass shootings in the nation.
On Saturday, 10 people were killed at a Buffalo supermarket in a predominantly Black neighborhood by a lone gunman who released a racist screed before the attack that suggested he had targeted African Americans.
According to the bill text, the Federal Firearm Licensing Act will require residents to complete a written firearm safety test and hands-on testing, which includes firing testing, to get the license to acquire a firearm.
The license will also require those wanting to buy a gun to submit a criminal background check, fingerprints, and proof of identity.

Rust never sleeps and termites never stop chewing the timbers of the foundation.
They never stop doesn’t mean they will be successful. That’s why we have a constitution and a 2nd amendment.
Right.
Menendez is a corrupt politician, took bribes and got off scott free because he is part of that corrupt system.
What is it about . . . “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” don’t these people understand ? ? ?
Yeah. What part don’t they understand?
If the GOP proposed a pro-life bill to outlaw Abortion, I wonder if the Hill would use the same wording?
“It has virtually no chance of becoming law given Democrat opposition, but gives a sense of the breadth of restrictions on Abortion access that some lawmakers would favor imposing in the wake of years of unborn child murders in the nation.”
What a parade for kommies...
No chance of passage
Corrupt / Dishonorable DOJ - bump for later...
Licensing to be determined by Domestic Terror Task Force. Whitey keep walking.
DOJ requirement to purchase a firearm
1.
Swear by oath to never buy a firearm.
I am starting to wonder what it is that WE do not understand.
Intelligent people kill termites and use rust prevention and protection.
How “in your face” do gun-grabbing commies have to get? Do people not figure out from the CRT and homo dressing closets in the classrooms that the “school shootings” of the past have been allowed, at the least, by these same commie dirt-bags?
Democrat Senator Cory “Spartacus” Booker’s sexual proclivities risk more lives than firearms do.
All they had to do was use NY’s Red Flag law and this young man would not have been able to purchase a firearm.
But they couldn’t even do that because the FBI was agitating this mentally ill young man online, helping him write his manifesto and even helping him buy the firearm.
Doing anything that would have prevented this was not allowed so the FBI could have its big event requested by the DNC.
Notice that this bill wasn’t introduced after the subway shooting or the dozen mass shootings committed by blacks.
It should be no harder to vote than it is to buy a gun.
I remember when Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) arrived on the scene at Sandy Hook to push that the AR was used in the Sandy Hook mass shooting - he was on CNN tell Wolf Blitzer that the AR was the gun used - this was right after the Police Chief said the AR was found in the trunk of the car.
Wolf Blitzer challenged him on this and he became angry and Wolf shut up about.
I’ll never forget that exchange, Blumenthal was there to push the AR ban narrative.
So even dead people should be buying guns.
