Supreme Court upholds redistricting maps (Kansas)

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Kansas Supreme Court announced this morning its decisions in cases that involve state and congressional reapportioned districts around 10:30 a.m.

In a decision on Wednesday by the Kansas Supreme Court, the redrawn redistricting maps are upheld as constitutional.

The state Supreme Court declined to declare that overly partisan gerrymandering violates the Kansas Constitution. The ruling sets district boundaries less than a month before the state’s June 10 filing deadline for congressional candidates.

The state’s Republican-appointed solicitor general argued in defending the GOP-drawn map that because the state constitution doesn’t specifically mention gerrymandering or congressional redistricting, the Kansas Supreme Court should reject the legal challenges. He and other state officials said that the justices had no guidance on how to define improper political gerrymandering.

Redistricting must be done to favor the Democrats, following the law, considering the desires of the people, or let the Legislature to do their duty under Federal and State Constitution is clearly unacceptable.

The media clearly expect the Supreme Court to correct the egregious mistake of the Legislature and put Lawrence right smack in the middle of all of those cornpones just like the geography suggests. Run a corridor right down the middle of I-70 until it gets to Lawrence, then draw a balloon around Douglas County and they will be happy. Fortunately, the Kansas Supreme Court made the right decision, but a better decision would have been to say: not our job, talk to the Legislature.

This improves the chances of a GOP pickup in the U.S. House of Representatives. The lone Dem in the state’s congressional delegation now faces an even steeper climb in November. Good news, because she is a stone-cold commie.
